Data Invalid Installing an MSI TV@nywhere

i just got my MSI TV@nywhere

Stuck it in the computer (tried it on 2 different computers and in many non IRQ shared PCI slots) and win2k (SP3) detects it as a Multimedia Video Controller, then I go on to manually install drivers (device manager) and choose the drivers located on the cd or downloaded latest versions from the net. It copies all of the files across, then 'Data is Invalid'.

When i use the setup program to install the drivers, it says 'failed' suggesting the same thing is happening.

I am gonna send the card back today (XMas eve - hope the Post Office is open - wish me luck) but if there is some stupid issue I should look up then tell me. I have correctly set all of the jumpers and that kind of thing. I think the CityLink man bashed it about in his truck too much and knackered the card. Either that or it has been electrostatically fried.

I don't know man, I never got any errors like that. I like to reformat when i get a new piece of hardware, make sure there is no remaining crap in the registry. Hope you get it all figured out!

No worries, I shouted and threw a tantrum at the card, it is surprisingly ok now. I hit the card and guess what, it started working on christmas day. I'd like to thank Jesus and all of those other folks who created this day that I could get an MSI TV@nywhere without paying a PENNY:).

Anyways, I hit it and got very angry as I couldn't get the card in easily, finally it worked. I am having a few problems with it. I heard that it had wonderful colour separation, but I cant really see this. I am currently doing a few samples but my computer is busy recording Hound of the Baskervilles on BBC1 so I cant create them atm (dont want to loose any frames with a chest cut-open, that kinda thing). As soon as it is complete, I will create some samples and upload them to thy holy site. Cant remember the address anymore so I will have to find that thread I made earlier.

I did re-format but this was because of some other reason I cant remember, something else was playing up, undoubtably something to do with networking. Windows 2000 SP3 on now, though I cant get the remote to work properly (tv@nywhere remote thingy).

Also, the card isn't really designed for PAL people (I am PAL-I) but I have had to do some registry fiddling to make it capture at 576 vertical. This fiddling is only working with iuVCR and simply changes the custom preset which has a fixed vertical resoloution of 480 to 576 and makes that change permenant. If anyone wants it, I will be sticking it on the website. I have fixed the jumper position of the card to PAL-I but still, it wouldn't capture in iuVCR at PAL res's. The software captures at 576 fine but not other problems. As for virtual dub, I cant capture at any res higher than vertical 288 (or is it 240?). It just claims that that res is unsupported. I dunno, I will pesker at MSI to create some better PAL drivers that really support us europeans, it does say on the back that it captures PAL-I no problem, but that is only true with it's software, which I add isn't that bad really. Fast and good MPEG-2 encoder (and MPEG-1) by interVIDEO. The only quibble I have with it is that it captures interlaced signals and uses a blending de-interlacer of it's 'true' convultion 2D filter. I would much prefer to have the option to turn off the convultion 2D and de-interlacing facility totally as I can de-interlace by myself quite well thankyou very much with things like DECOMB Telecide() and TomsMo de-interlacing thing.

Hope either you, others or even MSI can answer some of these questions about the card and make it work better:)
