XviD and TMpgEnc

Dear Forum,

Last night I did try to convert XviD clips to MPEG-1 VCD complaint
use TMpgEnc, and after I load the .avi file, suddently the TMpgEnc
is getting crashed.

I think it's relating to the XviD's vfw decoder because when
I try the DivX 5.x or even old 3.11 clips all are with no problem.

PS. I'm using Koepi's build 09122002 on Win2k Sp3, and TMpgEnc 2.59x

Hi,

so you're still around. Me too. Tell me, who ist that girl on your avatar? Anyway, did you try an older build for decoding or even one of Nic's builds. At least in Koepi's latest build (19122002) the decoding via direct show but also via dll is seriously broken. That's all I can give you as an advice. Another option would be to write an Avisynth script for decoding and put that one into TMPG.

1) Open TMPGEnc and press Cancel if Wizard pops up
2) Go to Option->Environmental Setting...->VFAPI plug-in
3) Adjust the plug-in priorities (this is done by right clicking on
the plug-in and choosing Higher priority as many times as
necessary) to match the following:

DirectShow Multimedia File Reader.......3
AVI2(OpenDML) File Reader................1
AVI VFW compatibility Reader.............0
CyberLink MPEG-2 Decoder.................0
Microsoft MPEG-1 Decoder.................0
Wave File Reader..............................0
BMP/PPM/TGA/JPG File Reader...........-2
DVD2AVI Project File Reader 1.76+.....-2*
TMPGEnc Project File Reader 2.58......-2*

4) Press OK
5) Now you can load your XviD AVI into TMPGEnc just like any other
AVI and encode as you wish.

ello im havin the same prob so i tried wat the guy wrote above me and it does work but wen i play the svcd to check it , it stutters every say 7-10 secs

When being played in your DVD Player or also on the PC ?

@goldseal,

change the motion search algo to 'NORMAL' instead of default 'MOTION ESTIMATION' and your stutter will go away. Also if your source is progressive, then I'd change the encode to 'progressive' instead of the default 'interlace' as well. Hope this will help.

No idea though so what motion estimation search algo should have to do with stuttering video ? I'd estimate its more a problem with an incompatibility of the audio sampling rate ( a. 48 KHz used ? only modern standalone DVD PLayers can cope with that b. inprecise sampling rate from bad resampling ) or the frame rate of the source video ....

If you only choose directshow filter in envirinment settings, you could even use ffdshow filter and resize and postprocessing and you could also encode mp3 sound directly to mp2 in sync! even VBR bitrate. in other words if you use directshow when encoding with tmpgenc you dont need to demux the mp3 audio file or ac3 to get the movie in sync.

i changed the motion sensing to normal and didnt seem to make any difference. what if i convert it from xvid to a divx then to svcd thats all i can think of..

Hi-

I think you'd better check with vcdhelp.com to see if there are issues with your DVD player. I know of some Apex models that produce the symptons you describe. Also, did you follow ChristianHJW's suggestion and try it out on your PC?

I had a similiar problem converting from xvid->SVCD and changing the search algo from default(motion estimate) to normal fixed it...

I had the same problem, I just used ffdshow to decode the file instead of XviD and it worked fine.

i didnt rip the film myself so i didnt choose the codec.


erm i havent tried it in the dvd player just in my pc and the source file runs perfectly its defanetly something todo with the converstion from xvid to svcd.

I downloaded the ffdshow, and the XViD was already checked (Do I check "Decode using XViD" also?)...I also tried birdy's suggestion and the "DirectShow Multimedia File Reader" was already at the top...

Did anyone of you try the old recommended way (by doom9) to disable the DirectShow multimedia file reader completely and using an Avisynth script as input? I just came to my mind that you have to do resizing anyway when you encode to SVCD from DivX/XviD. Resizing is definitely much faster in Avisynth than in TMPGEnc and I think this is one of the most reliable ways to do the transcoding.

Using the settings as supplied by Birdy the xvid encoded fine in
TMPGenc.
It did stutter when played back on my pc but not when played on my dvd player.
Has any one else played the movie back on there dvd player.??

I am really sorry! It's my fault. I forgot to mention this myself.
With the settings I posted there are somtimes stuttering effects when played on a pc! But non on your vcd player.
