you have to change the processing settings from 4:3 aspect to 16:9 aspect

SVCD don't accept widescreen. You *have to* encode letterboxed.

16:9 AR is supported by the SVCD standard.
But many SVCD-players have problems with 16:9 AR, and I doubt that you will get better quality at standard SVCD bitrates.

@ tactx
I know that, but as DVD players won't "see" the flag, the 16:9 AR is considered unsupported.

i'm not real into encoding SVCD but i've seen a function in avisynth to add borders to an existing 16:9 movie perhaps you could create a 'fake' 16:9 movie this way...
but i don't really know if that's what you want?!

i would just encode it at 16:9 and hit the widescreen button on my tv :D , no need for any dvd-player support then.

If you have such a button ;)
But it's an option, that's for sure, remains the fact that anamorphic encoding on SVCD will make the picture only worse due to the very limited bitrate ;)
