ok well i made a neat little vid to stick on thr front of my dvd rips but when i try to attach it it says cannot append cause the files have a different # of streams. the only thing i can think of that's different between the files is the bitrate the movie is 1329 and the opening segment thing i made is 40, is this what is causing this or is it something different all together? and if it is it how do i change the 40kbps into 1329? thanks

Does your intro video have sound? That's probably it.
And as a side note, please don't stick intro clips... they're extremely annoying, and "unprofessional".

no there is no sound, and if i want intro clips on my files thats my choice ;) and if i do decide to share them for people to download then whats 9 seconds on the begining of a movie? there are scroll bars... and many proffesional fansub groups etc have intros if they annoy you that much you can always chop them off :)easy enough to do

actually lost of people burn in their info right onto the movie itself as a sub sorta deal which personally i fond more annyoying i think a little animated pic with my screen name on it which is removable is better :)but it's highly unlikely you'll be downloading my rips anyway cause it's done for myself :)

You are making .avi files. Nandub will not let you append segments with different numbers of streams -- eg: your leader might be silent, the main content is not. In addition, you'll have difficulty even if they have the same # of streams, if the sound stream is mp3.
You can do what you want, by first demuxing the sound from your .avi, then concatenating the two silent .avi files, then re-muxing the sound with a delay for the length of your leader.
