will a 32bit pci card like sound blaster audigy paltinum 2 or something similar run in a 64bit pci slot like the ones in the dual xeon motherboards?

Not possible. Not 33Mhz bus.

Any 32bit PC 2.2 compliant PCI card will work in a 64bit slot.
The only drawback is it will slow any other device on that bus down to 33 MHz.

Unfortunately, this is not the case of the notorious Creative's products. As fas as I concern, up until now, not one single success case of using a creative card in 760 MPX board's 64 bit slot. Is creative card 3.3v keyed at all?

ahh thankyou so much!
no big deal on the creative, ill just stick that in the 32bit slot of my X5DA8. And on the subject of the bus being slowed, thats not a big deal since i dont have any 64bit pci cards.

@omol You are right.
None of the Creative's audio cards currently support's PCI 2.2 specifications.
On the other hand one of the 64 bit slots on K7X 760 MPX MOBO,
Is supposed to handle both 3.3 and 5.0v cards. Perhaps you should check the TYAN Web
Site for BIOS Update?

I'm afraid the 64bit slot on all 760 MPX board only do 3.3v. There's lot of discussion on the forums regarding this 64/32bit 66/33mhz 5/3.3v issue when the first 760 MPX board was out.
Btw, you have any idea about the possibility of using 2xTbred-B in 760MPX board? Google search not helpful on this matter.

According to what I've heard NO Not in SMP Mode.
The Following - Athlon MP Thoroughbred-core at .13 microns Processors Are not
Certified or supported in Dual Mode Configuration On a 760mpx Board.
AMD Athlon MP 2400+
AMD Athlon MP 2600+
AMD Athlon MP 2800+
AMD Athlon MP 3000+
AMD Athlon MP 3200+
AMD Athlon MP 3400+
However, any of those processors will run just fine on 760mpx board when only one processor is used.

So that means even TBred A/B with bridge trick like the one on Palamino will not work on 760 MPX, and there is certianly a new rev of 760 MPX or totally new SMP chipset from AMD. Right?
So for the time being, if I need cost effective i386 SMP box (for database backend demo), better stick with original Palamino MP chip and 760 MPX.
