After stripping the audio/subtitles, the new folder is at 4.83gigs. When i load this folder in Nero it shows right at 500mb too big. So how can i reduce this by 500mb w/o muxing the whole video? will removing the end credits be enough? please help.

Probably Not, U might save about 100-200megs. Maybe u could try stripping the 2 channel audio track instead of the 5.1 which in conjunction with removing the end credits might just be enough.

Have you removed all the extra's (multi angles if they exist and subtitles). Last think you might wanna do is cut out all the menu files and re-author the dvd (but the authoring program adds about 100meg overhead) and hopefully this might do it.

This movie only - no menu, extras. Having only 2 Ch. audio on a DVD is pretty much worthless.

Cutting of the end credits might not be enough to fit it on a dvd-r. Your gonna have to author dvd's in the future because a great majority use the full 9gb on a dual layer disc. The next few dvd's you encounter will be a lot more that 500mg over the limit (after you striped them).

I usually re-author (even though its a pain in the arse) because i never watch extra's (and even if i did, who watches them more than once?).

Then .5gig == 12 mins of credits. So if the credits are not 12 mins long then u need to consider other options. Ive heard that you can just re-encode the last Vob file in the movie at a ridicously low bitrate (if its just the end credits) and then replace it with the original (After some stuffing around) which gives you back ur original dvd and saves you re-encoding the WHOLE movie or re-authoring it.

check for extras in the same vob files. i know you said you had removed them. but if they are on the same vob files you need to strip them down. it happened to me once, in FROM_HELL.
still i had to transcode, but since i had to "shrink" less i got more quality.

well i checked the VTS_01_1 file in IFOedit and previewed ch1/cell1 and its the WB logo then starts the movie. So not sure since they are both in the same cell. But the sound of the movie starts while playing the logo.

What i dont understand is how to use rempeg2, it makes no sense even after reading the guide. Or even vobrator.

man it is quite simple.
you can do like i do.
take a peace of paper.
write down the size of the extras in bytes. youca use the explorer for that.
now we know that a dvd-r has 4.700.000.000 bytes of capacity.
subtract the extras from the total capacity.
you get the space you can use for the audio and video.
now in rempeg2, if you've done that correctly you will se the duration of the movie and the average bitrate.
like the guide says multiply the average bitrate by the duration of the movie, and then divide by 8. that number is the space the current video stream occupies. now if you reduce that number from the total size of your original (read the ones that are oversized) you get the portion of space the audio stream takes. you will need to know this because you are going to subtract the audio from the space availiable on the DVD.

as i was saying... you need to subtract the audio and extras from the total capacity of a DVD. the remaning is for the video stream.
now to know how much you need to "shrink" divide the size that the video must have in the DVD by the size it has currently.
if it still looks complicated i'll draw a scheme on a peace of paper and post that here.
if you do get it you'll see that after the fisrt one the others are easy it's like a recipy...(don't mind the spelling)
