Hey all,

I downloaded a Divx file from the net, and used TMPG to convert it to DVD MPEG2. I thought it was great, and fast, it worked fine. But since creating my own Divx 5.02 AVI files, I have found it doesn't work in TMPG. So, what I want to know is, why do the ones I download work okay ? But not ones I do myself ? I have tried different bit rates and resolutions and even other Divx codecs. I can't think of any reason why my Divx files should be different to those I download. The files play fine in Divx players, so I know they are okay. Any advice ?

Cheers,

Jon

What error to do you exactly get in TMPGEnc?

Post the "file information" (from Virtualdub) about the problematic divx 5.02 files.

Well, seems it was my mistake. When I encoded the downloaded divx file it had a totally different encoding screen then with my files. With the downloaded AVI it had a screen with Video and Audio encoding, and the video was done first. With mine it took me to a different screen and did the audio first, even though there was nothing on screen to tell me this. So, while I waited minutes after minutes, all I could see preview wise was a blank mini screen, instead of before where it did the video first. Odd. But I left it going just out of curiosity, and found that it does indeed do the video too, just afterwards, so the screen doesn't have a moving preview until it gets to that.

I do have 1 problem though, I can't convert the Panic Room Divx file I downloaded to DVD, TMPG says it is 300+ minutes long, which obviously it isn't. It views it fine in the first window, but then on the "dial" window to match up with a DVD-R size, it gives the totally wrong reading. Any ideas to that ?
