Removing Fullscreen from Stuart Little 2

Has anyone successfully removed the fullscreen version from Stuart Little 2 region 1 maintaining all the extras? I removed all the fullscreen files and used IFOEdit to "Get VTS Sectors". Since the movie starts with the aspect selection menu before going to the main menu, I stripped the aspect menu (ID60 from VTS_01_0). Now the disc progresses to the main menu correctly (Play/Audio Set Up/...) but when you select "Play", it cycles back to this main menu again. If you have successfully stripped the fullscreen with this movie, please give me the exact process you used to accomplish this feat.

I have run into the same problem, I have noticed that in a movie that shows the menu first then aspect ratio selection you can do the above process and everything works fine. but when ever the ratio selection is played first then the menu and you strip out the ratio selection menu it stays at the main menu even though you hit play. Somehow it seems as if there is two identical menu selection windows somewhere on the dvd. one that shows when you hit full screen and a different one that shows when you hit widescreen.

What I have been doing is I dont rip the ratio selection menu and just keep selecting the format you kept and everything works fine. do that at least until someone comes up with a solution if none exists. hope this helps. I guess as a temporary solution.

Anyone that has a solution to this problem please help us both.

Try this...

I backed up Stuart Little 2 R1 with widescreen only. I think it's one of my best personal accomplishments.

This guide is more for people who have done a few DVDs using ifoedit as I didn't go into details on why these changes or additions have to be. I call this my cheat sheet.

Stuart Little 2 (Region 1) Widescreen Only

1. Rip all files except vts_05_*, vts_06_*, vts_07_*, vts_08_*, and vts_09_* to harddrive. I use Smartripper 2.41. These excluded vts’ are your trailers which I don’t really care for and they take up space.

2. Start ifoedit 0.95 and open video_ts.ifo

3. Click on “Region free” button and set your region. I selected "1".
_______________________________________________________________
4. Click on “Get VTS sectors” button.
_______________________________________________________________
5. Region free all other IFOs.
_______________________________________________________________
6. Tweaks in video_ts.ifo:
a. In Language Menu Unit section, “delete playback” on VOB-Ids 2 & 3. These are your FBI warnings.
b. In VMGM_PGC_UT/PGC-Menu 2/Post Command, change post command #3 (LinkPGCN) Link PGC 4 to (LinkPGCN) Link PGC 3.
c. Save video_ts.ifo

7. Tweaks in vts_01.ifo/PGC-Menu 1 (Root Menu):
a. Hexedit pre command 43 by double left clicking on it and change [20 A6 00 0B 00 00 04 05] to [71 A0 0B 0B 00 01 00 00]
b. Edit pre command 66 as (JumpSS_VMGM) Jump to VideoManager PGC 3 [30 06 00 03 00 C0 00 00].
c. Edit for post commands 8 and 11 the same as step b.

8. Tweak in vts_01.ifo/PGC-Menu 7:
a. Edit first pre command as (LinkPGCN) Link PGC 1. This will disable the “Trailers” button.

9. Tweak in vts_01.ifo/VTS_PGCITI/VTS_PGC_1/Prohibited User Operations:
a. Uncheck Menu calls for subpicture, audio, and PTT.
b. Save vts_01_0.ifo

10. Get vts sectors again.

11. Hit “DVD Play” button and preview movie. I hope everything works out.

12. Burn video. I successfully used Nero 5.5.9.17 DVD-video and got no reallocation errors.

By God, it works!!! I can't thank you enough 2COOL after toiling for days on this rascal. I can't begin to imagine the time you spent analyzing the structure of this thing. I only know enough about IFOEdit to do what you told me, but if you ever have the time to give a more detailed explanation of each step it may help educate me enough to be able to provide the same assistance to others that you have provide me. I actually did a DVD for both the wide and the full screen to appease varied tastes. In each one, I simply removed the movie vob's of the one I didn't want, removed all the pre-commands except for 1 which was changed to jump to title 1 root menu. Get GTS. Burn. (I did remove the FBI stuff as well) When you insert the DVD, it goes to the root menu. Press play and you have to choose Wide or Full (make sure you know which one is in the drive) and it works. Several others are like this and work just the same. All of the extras and one movie fit on one DVD.

It was just a matter of convenience for me or for others that I didn't need to do this extra step as I knew what format the movie was already. Besides, the challenge was there for me to dig deep into understanding ifoedit more. Each DVD I do, I get a little better. I only started on this hobby this past October.

I'm lost sorry. I want to keep all the extras and trailers just remove the ratio selection. Which one of the steps do I follow? And is this the same step for each movie or is it different for every movie?

Irosado, you can keep the most of the extras on SL2, but you must remove one version of the movie and the trailers in order to fit it on one disc maintaining the original structure. You can follow 2COOL's instructions for this particular title but every movie is different which is what is so difficult and time consuming analyzing what everything in the files is and deleting and editing the appropriate files.

well actually you can keep all the extras and trailers. you just have to strip unwanted audio and subtitle streams and it all fits. I already did it. Just kept english language and english subs.

My primary concern was not having to fit as much of the DVD unto a DVDR but in keeping the menu intact and loopless. I thought that the intros and the motion menus were cool but I initially ran into errors trying to re-navigate. My second concern was keeping the movie as widescreen and bypassing the aspect ratio selection. From there, I could have done what you done, but by personal preference, I just hate trailers.

So again the challenge wasn't about keeping, it was about re-navigating.

Yeah, after following the above guide I just stripped out the vts_11 files, used dvd2one to create new vts_1 files with only one audio stream and no subs, ifoupdated and burned. Excellent.

Now, could you do the same for Insomnia?

I haven't done Insomnia and the answer to your question is a 99.9% no. Every DVD is authored a different way. It's rare that you can use a certain procedure on another and get it to work. Also, I find that PAL DVDs are different to their NTSC counterparts in titleset commands. That's why I mention that my cheat sheets are region 1 and DVD specific. You could learn and understand the method in my cheat sheets to give you some knowledge on how to do some editing in the future.
