Remux stalls on IfoEdit

Hi all. Can anyone tell me if there is a current bug with remuxing a resampled .m2v file using the latest release of IfoEdit?

My problem is that when I hit remux, it starts up and freezes. I left it running o/nite and still no progress. Are there log files generated with this program that I can look at to try and troubleshoot it?

I've noticed one other posting about another remuxing problem (Not the same situation) and the answer was to use IfoEdit 0.6 for remuxing.

Is this advisable in all cases when trying to remux new video stream into a VOB file?

A few more details would be helpful.


Is the hard drive crunching data like crazy (this is good)?

Is the CPU pegged at 100% useage (bad)?

Does the program show not responding in Task Manager (bad)?

What Operating system are you using?

If files are being written, is there ~4.5 GB free space on the destination drive?

do you get a pop up window with the prgress?

I'm no expert on the inner workings of the program, I know how it works in normal operations. Once seting up the data sources and selecting the destination etc.., on clicking OK in the VOB extras dialog, it just starts crunching data.

If there are probs error messages pop up.

... or you didn't specify a valid path for your destination file and IfoEdit doesn't show any [xx%] progress in the "Progress Bar"...

More info...

The hdd appears to be doing something (light on 90% of the time)

cpu usage is at idle (around 15%, consistent with intensive hdd usage)

Program fails to respond & has to be shut down thru task mgr

the output path is always navigated to using the explorer dialog box linked to the output field, so the path should be correct.

11 gigs free on hdd

xp pro os, amd 1800, 256 megs ram.

The progress dialog pops up but that's when it freezes - the symptoms rmtaibo describes, but unfortunately not the cause.

I'm hoping log files of some kind are being written so I can see what happened before it was shut down.

This is what I do when I encounter a problem I know nothing about.. ask a bunch of questions... I hope the forum doesn't mind ;)

Have you ever used IfoEdit sucessfully?

A constant bit of CPU useage as you describe is what you would normaly expect so I dont think that helps either way.

When it is processing data / not responding, are files appearing in the desitination directory?

If so, are they getting bigger?

I use IfoEdit for Editing IFO files (Strangely enough), building VOB's from AC3 and M2V streams... everything except Remuxing. For me, remuxing has never worked using IfoEdit.

When converting dvd's to DVD+R's I use the following steps:
Extract & Decrypt movie VOB's from orig using DVDDecrypter
If > 4.3 Gigs or so I extract the audio and video streams I require
I Resample the M2V file using TMPGEnc Plus (Not the shareware one)

At this point I would like to remux the vid stream into the old ifo's, however it never works.

What I do instead is drop the vid and audio into SpruceUp, create the menu and Build the files.
Finally I go back into the IFO files and change the display to 16:9 (Bug with SpruceUp).

This seems to be an almost foolproof way of doing it.
The other option is to rebuild the VOB's and IFO's using IfoEdit. This also works, and is faster if you don't want a menu.

I think I might wait for a while and try to use remux feature in IfoEdit in a few versions time. In the mean time, I will continue to use the steps above as I have never had any problems with it.

Derrow, if you happen to wander thru could you please consider creating a log file when IfoEdit runs to aid end-user troubleshooting?

If I understand correctly you've used the IfoEdit Authoring feature?

I've never been able to get the Remux feature in IfoEdit to work well with NTSC based TMPGEnc m2v files, although it does produce results, audio gets out of synch, sometimes strange video probs as well (although it works perfectly well with ReMPEG m2v files).

I follow the Doom9 TMPGEnc guides, but in place of the Remux step I use DVD Author > Author a new DVD.

Yes, I have used the DVD authoring feature in IfoEdit, however I've struggled to produce a reliable output. I can only play it in my sony dvd player (Recent model), and if I stop and start the dvd I lose the video but get to listen to the audio. It will not play at all in my Samsung DVD Player.

I still think that the spruceup method produces the most reliable results. It has never failed to produce a dvd that's worked in all dvd players I've tried.

It's a shame that the application is not being supported any more, as it is very easy for a beginner to produce a movie and create a menu with bookmarks with this app. However if you look hard enough you can usually find copies floating around the web.

I have the same exact problem with IfoEdit!

I'm using version 0.95 and it has worked perfectly for generating movie only PAL DVD:s and stream stripping. However, when I try to remux a video stream I have re-encoded with tmpgenc, IfoEdit stalls forever. Processor usage remains at around 10%, and there is some disc access happening, but the progress bar in IfoEdit did not advance at all in 8 hours, and that's when I gave up. There is no output generated on disc either.

I think your problems might be that when you select the create template button in ifoedit and select I frames only it actually does not do this. Just open the created template file and remove all references that don't contain an I only. Load template into tmpgenc but first clear all frames shown on the left and side of the screen and it should take about 30 seconds. Have a look though the frames you should see i frames only.
Compress as normal then remux with ifoedit , I have no problems using ifoedit 0.95 this way.
