I want to apply sharpen filter to a VCD. Is there a method by wich I do not have to re-encode the VCD?

The method I know is

In virtualdub apply the filter again re-encode and mux the VCD. Any other method or tool for mpeg where I simply sharpen the mpeg 1 vedio of a VCD!

I don't see how you could possibly process the video through a sharpen filter without actually transcoding it again. If you want a real time sharpen "filter" then adjust the settings of your tv/monitor.

Not possible without re-encoding, hence not worth it.

surely you can apply a sharpen filter to a VCD wichout to reencoding.
But the sharpening takes place only during playback, not on VCD(because no reencoding = no change). If you could get a directshow filter for mpg1/2 with such function you could adjust the sharpness. But so far I know there is no such filter jet. So the only real chance to do it is on DVD-Player and TV. The TV-sets from SONY with 100Hz technology have very good image pre-processing(incl. bob and sharpen and progressive scan, so the images are VERY sharp for viewing), you can adjust the sharpness. A good DVD player such as JVC XV-N5 also apply sharpen on DVD/VCD source.
