Nero gives u 4 options to burn DVDs: UDF, ISO, DVD-Video and UDF/ISO. Some guides recommend DVD-Video while others recommend UDF/ISO. What is the best one? I use DVDDecrypter - Vobedit -Ifoedit 0.95 to back up my DVDs. Pls help.

Just use the DVD-Video one....

And get invalid discs with a broken UDF file system which a few players (such as Panasonic PV-32 or what it is called) reject...

I use UDF/ISO...based on my tests it burns the most compatible DVDs. VCDHelp.com recommends UDF which is the least compatible way to burn with Nero from my experience (only works in 1 out of 5 players I've tested). However, my Toshiba DVD/VCR combo only plays +RW with UDF but plays +R in all formats (weird).
When using UDF/ISO select UDF 1.02 (as physical partition) which from what I read is the most compatible. Nero DVD-Video uses a later physical partition. I think 1.05.

Use what works with your DVD player.... unless you're distrubuting.

Even a DVD player can brake...and then, you certainly do not want to have to look for a new player which plays your (broken) DVDs...

alexnoe: How do you know that DVD-Video produces a broken filesystem in the current Nero?
I have not come across any problems with 2 Pioneers, a Yamakawa (Raite) and an extremely picky Sony 300.

Because it does not play on the player I've mentioned. It reports an "Error 499".
If I use the very same vob files and DVD Maestro to create the image, the discs play.
The Sony may be picky with media, but that does not say anything about whether it's picky with a broken file system or not...

Have you reported this to ahead? Their support is extremely responsive.
However, browsing the forum I could not find other messages which reported problems with 5.5.9.x, but some that reported solved problems with 5.5.9.9 and onwards.

I have tested all my Nero DVD-Video discs in a Panasonic RV-32 and a V7 PS2 and they all work. I would assume that the PV-32 is a older model. Older model's are most likely not as forgiving as newer models, and this may be an issue that Panasonic resolved, or a problem you are having when you make your backups.

so...
alexnoe: what is YOUR recommendation?

Also possible that I actually meant the RV-32 (don't have it here an the moment). Now I really wonder....
I recommend to write the image file using ImgTool or DVDMaestro and use DVDDecryptor to write it to the disc. This always produced good discs.

Nero writes xbox incompatible disks. If they are xbox incompatible what else are they incompatible with.... This is using a image method. The best way for me is to use Primo DVD to write the image this gives 100% sucess.

"When using UDF/ISO select UDF 1.02 (as physical partition) which from what I read is the most compatible. Nero DVD-Video uses a later physical partition. I think 1.05. "
Using 'UDF/ISO' mode with physical partition 1.02 be the same as using just UDF mode with 1.02 physical partition? I can use UDF1.02 and the dvdr will work fine in my player and wont work in friends players but if i select UDF/ISO mode it wont work in mine but will in others.

I have been fooling with Nero 5.5.10 for a couple of weeks now and read many posts. My conclusion is that Nero 5.5.10 is the least desirable SW.
I ran tests with PowerDVD, WinDVD, and my Panasonic RV22 (RV32 minus a couple of features.)
All three Nero combos produced various combinations of compatability. The DVD_Video mode gives -RW's that PowerDVD won't read. Someone else mentioned such a problem. WinDVD seems to read everything. Some modes read OK with software but not on the set top player.
I recently purchased Ulead Movie Factory Version 2 (just released). It is a great program if you do your own videos (as well as ripping.) I use Ulead Video Studio as well. It also burns VIDEO_TS folders (e.g., from IfoEdit) as well as ISO images. All burns on my DVR104 work with PowerDVD, WinDVD and the RV22. For $50 it is worth it.
I have also had good luck with Easy CD creator 5 for writing data DVD's. I suspect it should also write an image file. I have not tried a VIDEO_TS folder.
My advice is to scrap Nero and use DVD movie factory 2 or another method as described in other posts here. Oh, avoid Sonic My DVD. More expensive and movie factory is better.
