Hi,
I've decided to make the switch from SVCD to DVD. I've been browsing around and have found decent prices on the new Pioneer A05 here in Toronto but I can't find media for a decent price. I went to the website CDROM2GO and they seem to have ridiculously cheap media, I figure their prices are too good to be true. Anyone order from them? I searched the forums and only found one reference to this site? The prices they have are:

Samsung 100 DVD-R for $164
USDM Pro (their brand) 100 for $198
USDM Normal & Case 100 for $92

Anyone try any of these media? I'd like to burn them and play them on my Panasonic RP62.

Any decent places to get media in Canada are also welcome? The best prices I can find around here is about $8 a blank. At that price I will probably skip the backup and buy a used copy if I need one (roughly $12-15).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yeah the media prices up here suck. I'm planning to order something from the US. There are a lot of online stores with good prices, recently I've been looking at www.supermediastore.com, which Doom mentioned they have the 4x media.

To order you are looking at the cost and shipping in USD, + taxes (GST/PST), + duty (8% I think), + customs handling fee (via Can post or shipping company).

I'm not in a hurry to order, but I'll probably do so in the new year. If you or any other Canadians find some good sources up here, let us know.

john supermediastore doesn't ship to canada, i believe. There is hypermicro.com that will ship, but its got 20$ charge ontop. Ive ordered a small pack from there just to try out. Besides that, I'm using ebay. Though, there are no auctions (or online stores) in canada that ship the Ritek 4x yet. I just got a 4x Ritek 10 pack from ebay, from the U.S. for 35$ USD. which included the shipping. I haven't received any additional charges from it being "smuggled" in. To my understanding it was shipped via U.S. Air mail. I may have "lucked out". Or I'll find out for sure, if there is additional charges later on at the end of this month billed to me or not. Sucks to be in Canada. Think i'll just go over to the states and smuggle it all back in the future. lol.

In the end I went with shop4tech.com, not for any reason but that it was the web site I was browsing when I decided it was time to order (impulse buyer :scared: )

Here are my experiences.

Jan 12
Placed online order for 50 DVD-R Bulk Ritek 2x media 49.99 USD + USPS air delivery = total of $64.24 USD :)

Jan 17 Credit card is hit for $100.48 CAN

Jan 17 Tracking info on shop4tech website links to UPS. I follow the progress on UPS tracking website.

< I'm a little puzzled about this as I requested USPS (cheaper brokerage fees at the border, UPS can be as much as $40 CAN>

Jan 24 its in Ottawa Canada but I am not at home, I phone to arrange pick up at the depot, I find out that taxes and duty are $21 CAN. This is what I was expecting, I am glad there were no big brokerage fees.

Jan 28 I go to pick it up. The invoice states that the media cost .29 a unit for total of 14.50 USD, this may be why the brokerage fees were not so big? Anyway its all good.

Tested the media. Its working fine.

Total cost to me was $121 CAN or $2.42 a DVD :D

Which is not bad, the cheapest localy avaliable media here is, single Verbatim for $9.99 CAN (these prices also have a + 15% sales tax), single Optodisk for $7.95 CAN or bulk 50 Optodisk for $129 CAN :scared: Talk about a scam.
