RV9 Directshow Codec

is it true that there will be a binary released of RV9 that will be a directshow codec? does that mean that it can be used like any other codec out of virtualdub, and be played back on any directshow player??? more info please!:D

I'm leaving for a family visit this Friday, and won't be back until Jan 6th or so. I wouldn't expect anything until halfway through January, if even that early.

That aside, it isn't rocket science :) I'm sure anyone who's done anything with VfW in the past could knock something up.

I am still waiting for a reply regarding the license question. I do not want to make any promises based on how I read the licenses, and since they were not written with this (VfW / DirectShow) in mind, the answer is not straightforward.

This idea is wonderful! I'm quite impressed with the quality of the codec at lower bitrates, but that framework keeps me from using it. Yes, i believe it's great for streaming, but what is more important to me is storaging, and real doesn't really shine at this task.

RV9 is better than MPEG4 at low bitrates. It would be great to have a vfw codec :)

Thanks for the kind words on the codec (wmv9). But no need to hack our codec to get AVI support. We will be doing this ourselves. Next month, we hope to release a VCM version of WMV 9 that should let you see it in just about any app that supports VfW. And yes, you can also use it in AVI and with other audio codecs if you like.

i guess you will have to allow this in your licenses now at least, although i prefer an vcm codec made by real so -h can concentrate on his divx3 to mpeg4 lossless conversion tool :D

but RM contener is not so bad, it can be played on MacOS and Linux...
VFW can't.

I apologize to everyone, but there is nothing new to report on the license question, i.e. whether or not the Helix licenses would allow an RV9 DirectShow codec. A decision is yet to be made.

assuming it would be allowed, if a directshow codec would exist ,would we be able to control the post-processing? or is ther no PP in the decoder itself, and rather just in the Realone Player?
