View Full Version : Resolution error when TMPG starts
Rotorhead
18th December 2002, 18:16
I'm a "new" guy on have been lurking for some time and have read everything I can get my hands on. I have been successfully using DVD2SVCD and thought I was starting to understand what is required.
I now have the following problem:
Using the "internal" routines I have ripped a couple of titles into there own directories. I then set up the destination folders and set it for VCD everything goes along ok until TMPG opens and I get an "illegal resolution error message. The resolution in TMPG is set to something ridiculous like 812X560 at 23 FPS. Even If I open TMPG and set everything correct and save as default (I can open it later and it is correct). When DVD2SVDC (or more correctly DVD2VCD) opens TMPG it resets and fails. What is the problem?

Assuming that you did a search and didn't find anything similar, posting your log would be a good idea...

I'll post it tomorrow, There doesn't seem (to me) to be any relevant info in the log. when TMPG fails in the first pass the log just shows the error because the TMPG file was not created so it then comes to a halt. I did indeed do a search and found no hits. Thanks for the reply :)
Here is the log from the audio finish until TMPG fails

I did some more searching and found this: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37638
Sounds like the same problem using the CCE encoder, I will look and may just "clean it off" and start over :)

Well, I did a uninstall and set up new directory and reinstalled the entire Bundle. I wiped the previous converted files and started over and have the exact same problem. I did find the file "SVCDinfo.txt" had the bogus resolution listed but I changed it no help. and after re-running the files it did not change. I hope these aren't "stupid" questions I am really trying to understand the underlying program flow and overall methodology. Thanks for
looking :)

I am now getting this error more and more frequently. Please advice.
The TMPG error msg says:

The AviSynth_Script_file.avs says:

odd thing is, i'm having sort of a similar problem...i'm using CCE 2.50 and 2.67, and i'm working with 16:9 sources, and although i'm sure i'm setting it up correctly (i've been using DVD2SVCD since it first came out) I keep getting "stretched" encodes. I did a clean install on my machine and it worked fine with one dvd, but then it kept crapping out with the next 10 or so i tried. Also installed dvd2svcd on another machine, with the older avisynth (2.0?), and ccesp 2.50 only to have the same error.
I dunno, i'm gonna try finding an older version of dvd2svcd, this one has been nothing but trouble for me :(

I'm getting the same error:
The TMPG error msg says:
The resolution of the video is illegal.
> The windows size needs to bet set between 8x8 and 4088x4088.
> The width and height of window needs to be multiple of 8.
AviSynth_Script_file.avs is:
LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\DVD2SVCD\AVISYN~1.5PL\Mpeg2dec\MPEG2D~1.DLL")
AVISource("C:\Movies\Movie.avi",False)
ConvertToYUY2()
BicubicResize(480,424,0.0,0.6)
AddBorders(0,76,0,76)
ConvertToRGB()
Seems about the same as those with a similar problem (with different display dimensions).
If I understood the previous post correctly, I opened AviSynth_Script_file.avs from within Media Player Classic. The movie plays, appears distorted (if I edit the above script to reflect the original display dimensions, it's fine - 480 x 326), except there is no sound. Selecting properties during playback gave the following.
Type: AviSynth Script
Size: 199B
Video Size: 480 x 576
Can anyone help me?

Based on the number of posts I see you responding to I know you're pretty busy. But you seem to be the guy who would know in a matter seconds what our problem is. If you have a chance can you comment on the following thread? Thanks for any input or advice you can provide.
@Slingshot,
Welcome to the forum. You are kindly invited to :readrule: you agreed to when signing up. You'll notice you already violated R10 and R12, and probably R6 too. That's three in a row and if you were not a newbie you'd be suspended by now.
Sorry, we cannot provide help on movies you don't own. So if this is not the case, please :readguid: :readfaq: :logfile: and of course the stickies so we can help you better.
A good point is you at least used search. ;)

I'm getting the same error message of illegal resolution.
I'm using DVD2SVCD 1.2.2 b3, and TMPGEnc 2.521
Source is an AVI file, whose resolution is 640 x 352, 30fps. I set the aspect ration to be 16:9 on conversion screen. And tried both resize to SVCD and DVD on frameserver screen.
What else should I do to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance.

Open Windows Media Player.
File Menu > Open > Set file type to "All files".
Browse for the file "Avisynth_script_file.avs" in your movie output folder.
Do you see pictures, or red text?
If it's the text, what does it say?
