View Full Version : is this the end of my Pioneer 104?

I bought a bunch of Datawrite disks which lot of people say that it is very good quality.
My problem is that I have burned about 15 disks (from different batches (they came in 10 packs)) and only 3 came out without CRC Errors when I verified them with DVD Decrypter.
I tried the rest of the disks on my standalone and they do eventually freeze.
The Pioneer can still access the disk.

So far I have tried burning with 1.33 and 1.32 firmwares and burned at both 1x and 2x speeds with Nero and Stomp (haven't tried the image trick cause I just read it)

Results are that near the end of the disk (trying to burn full movies) I get errors in the vts_01_5.vob file.

So I have the following suspicion:
a. The disks are crappy and can't be burned correctly all the way.
b. My burner is going to die soon.. I am saying that cause my cousin's plextor cd-r drive can't write more that 550MB anymore but anything below that works ok. The only thing that I haven't tried is disabling burn proof and see if I get an error.

Any suggestions/comments about the quality of the disks and my suspicions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
murdof

The last TraxData media I saw was Vivastar, which is http://forum.gravure-news.com/images/smiles/icon_beurk.gif

Finding good media for your player is easier if you buy discs of which you know the manufacturer before...maybe Datawrite were good last week, and maybe they sell Vivastar instead of Ritek or TDK this week.

If you want to check if your DVD burner fails, get a few pieces of Verbatim or Maxell media.

I don't know if this makes sense but I downgraded to FW 1.20 and burned so far 3 disks without any problems. 2 from Nero and 1 from Stomp.
Disks verify OK in DVD Decrypter so I'm sticking with 1.20 for now and see how it goes.

Thanks for your help guys.

Hi, I'm getting exactly the same problem with my Pioneer 104 (official 1.40 firmware)and Datawrite 2x dvd-r's, about 3/4 of the way through the movie, it starts to skip and eventually lock-up.
I'm going to try different media.

Hello, ive been having the same problem as you guys writing to datawrite dvd-r on my pioneer 104, firmwares i have tried are 1.20, 1.30, 1.31 & the latest 1.40, i scrap more discs than i burn successfully and the successfull discs break up and freeze but on different players not in the same place, these discs are terrible for movies but still seem OK for data backup (if you get em to start burning) which is all i am going to use them for (same results with datawrite dvd-rw).

Any suggestions on good media ?
I hear ritek discs are good.

i wouldnt know about dvd+r maybe they are made differently or just better made than dvd-r. I will have to try a different brand because loads of people complain about datawrite.
