mp3 files on a dvd-r

I have a Sharp DV-740 DVD player. So far it has done everything perfectly. It says it supports mp3 files too. I have successfully played mp3 cds on it, but i want to make an mp3 dvd-r. I tried making a regular data dvd-r with nero and dropped all my mp3s in there, but it didnt work. So...is there any way that this dvd player can play a dvd-r with mp3s on it?

I don't know your particular player, but the only standalones I know of which will do properly what you are trying to are based on the STi5505 ("Omega") chipset (players manufactured by Vestel and usually sold under various OEM names in Europe).
Most players will detect the medium type (dvd in your case) and won't even try to playback anything other than what they expect on such a medium ("it is dvd-r, so there can't possibly be any mp3s on it", similar problem mentioned in this thread: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40720).

Sharp DV-740 seems to be a variation of Sampo DVE-611 player. If you like, you could check this link to get more information of your player:

The Cyberhome CH-402 can play them. Several tests on the net confirmed that (in German though). VCDhelp users also confirm that. But there are also other players out there to support that, especially Vestel OEMs like smiller said.
