I've recently purchased a Sony DRU500A and I hade a small warning leaflet in the package saying that some Verbatim discs are problematic for that device (not that I hadn't known that already). Now it mentions
no good for sony: 43136 & 43166
good: 43208 & 43209
I have a bunch of Verbatim DVD-Rs here with part number 43135 so that's not on either the good or the bad list and I'm wondering if anybody knows whether these discs are problematic as well or not. For now I just keep all my Verbatim DVD-Rs at the place where I have the A04 burner which has no problem with those discs and use only Verbatim DVD+Rs for the Sony burner (I get these for $2.66, same deal as for the DVD-Rs).

Try one: it's just $3. Or you could always e-mail Verbatim or Sony.

If they don't work, send them to Verbatim. They will replace them with new ones the Sony is compatible with.

the sending back is an idea.. though I'm sure the postage fee would be more expensive than the disc itself. I'll just give one a spin when I finally get around to installing the burner (can you believe I've had it for a week now and it's still just sitting on my table?)

You can send back the whole package ;)

the whole package? You mean the burner? Sony hater? -RW customer who has to justify his investment?
Anyway, I've tried it and it doesn't work but then again I didn't expect it to be any different. Good thing DVD+Rs are still on sale for the same price as the DVD-Rs were when news about the incompatibilities came out. And I can burn the rest of my DVD-Rs in the A04.

@Doom9: No, the whole Verbatim package! If you have any non-Sony-compatible Verbatim discs, then Verbatim will replace them with new ones!
When I bought my DVR-A03, the only other existing drives were DVD+RW only (w/o DVD+R), so I don't need to "justify" anything...

I've had Nero 5.5.9.0 which didn't even recognize the Sony so I downloaded the latest... Nero 5.5.10.0. Interestingly enough Nero also says it can't write multisession with this device (only when using DVD-R). Anyway, I'll stick to using Verbatim DVD+Rs in the Sony and use the remaining Verbatim DVD-Rs in the Pioneer. After all there's no use to go through all the RMA trouble if the discs are still useful.
