View Full Version : Why can't an adomation process be done like this?

I have pretty much failed to understand why an automated program like DVD2SVCD has not been designed for the DVD World, yes there is insane complications in some areas but most movies are really not that difficult. I do not see why a program can not be designed that can take care of some of the many time consuming processes.

Here is my basic suggestion for what the program can do:

1. Start from a fully ripped DVD and the excessive extras taken out. I personally get rid of all the extras easily by just deleting the massive VOBs and the doing delete playback, I can keep some in there if I wish otherwise delete a few, I don't mess with the logo removal and all the crap, but either way you have the full DVD ripped and you take off all the major VOBs.

2. So the program loads up and you read from the directory and find out what the directory size is, then load the main IFO as DVD2SVCD does and you can choose which audio streams you want to keep and what not.

3. From here the program can figure up what size the movie needs after the subtitles are stripped and the audio's taken out.

4. Then basically go through the same process DVD2SVCD does with the actual movie, reencode it for you, run pulldown for you.

5. Then it should be able to use a program like scenarist or Maestro and easily put your DVD back together (1 PGC in the main movie), it just a matter of loading, placeing, putting in chapters, and reencoding.

6. Copy over the files and run the IFOedit update, and IFO edit for get sectors and stuff like that.

7. then basically you have a DVD-9 to DVD-5 with no extras and some nice menus and the best quality you can get in the actual movie.

I know its a quick write up but I figured it could get some minds working, if we can get something going on a simple process I think it would start up, if the DVD is more complicated you could easily incoroporate an option for just reencode and build a DVD with just the movie. Extras are just to complicated for automation but for a $1 DVD sometimes it's easy to live with a few sacrafies. Just some ideas, I feel like with a ripper, CCE, IFOedit and Maestro the process is really just a few steps, that you have to watch for hours on end that could easily be automated.
