View Full Version : Authoring problems.

Hey,

First off, sorry to dredge up an already well discussed subject, but after extensive searches in these

forums and those on other sites I'm no further towards sorting my problem. Ordinarily the forums here are great for help and information but not this time :(

My problem is that I don't seem to be able to create a compliant DVD project when ripping/stripping/re-encoding a DVD9 to fit on a DVD5. For example, PAL Rollerball 2002. Menus/Movie in VTS1 and various trailers/music videos in VTS2-8. I'm using the following process.

1. Ripping the entire DVD via DVD Decrypter (3.1.4.0) in file mode.

2. Using IFOedit (.95) to strip all unwanted non-english subs/audio/menus from all the VOB sets.

At this stage, after having corrected the VTS sectors, ImgTools (0.99.5) will begin to create an image via the Nero API with no problems. I've burned other titles at this stage with no problems either using the ImgTool/DVD Decrypter, Nero/UDF-ISO or Nero/DVD-Video burning methods. All work fine in both drives in my PC as well as my Sony DAV-S500 standalone.

3. Now I wanted to decrease the size of the extras (I like to try and keep everything on the disk if possible) before beginning to re-encode the main movie files. I use DVD2AVI 1.76 on VTS4 (Trailer, Video + 1 6 Channel English Audio), VFAPI frameserving and CCE (2.5) to reencode the video stream. I then use Maestro to re-author the .mpv and .ac3 files. I can load up the resulting VOB file(s) in PowerDVD and they play fine.

4. Re-name the authored VTS01*.* to VTS04*.* to match the original, copy VTS04_1.VOB to the original project and then run IFOupdate (0.57). IFOedit makes some changes and corrects VTS sectors.

Playing the move from HDD via PowerDVD works without a hitch but when I try to create an image for burning with ImgTool (with re-allocate checked) or merely burn all the movie files via the Nero Video-DVD template I get the "Failed to re-allocate Video-DVD files" error.

I know a lot of people have said to uncheck the 're-allocate' box in ImgTool or use the UDF/ISO 1.02 in Nero instead but rips only seem to work in my Sony standalone if I don't receive errors via Nero. As I've said previously, I've had great success with Nero and various other burning apps using all of the methods above. The problem only seems to appear after re-encoding and re-introducing files back into an original project. Using IFOedit/CCE/Maestro to strip/re-author all but the main movie works fine.

I know media isn't a problem because I've been using the same intenso DVD+R disks for ages and the vast majority of them are successful (Except those cases detailed above).

If any of you could give me any advice or pointers, I'd really appreciate it.

Many Thanks,

Scott.
