can nero burn more than 800mb?

hi. i'm thinking about putting multiple vcd's on one dvd-r, but i'm not sure whether or not Nero will write it. does nero read the blank disk in the drive and find out how much free space there is? is it possible to write 4.32 gig in nero to a blank DVD-r?

The other question is: will you be able to put a VCD file system on a dvd-r and (more importantly) would any standalone be willing to play back such a beast?
You can always use your vcd video, redo the audio and do a fully compliant DVD, though.

Wether you can play it or not will be standalone dependent. I doubt my Pioneer would play it, but I am pretty sure my Apex would. The Apex may only play it in file mode though, but I have never tested it.

why wouldn't it play the disk? all it is is a very large vcd with multiple tracks on. both my dvd players are sony and they play all the vcds i've made, but i don't know what the difference is if i use dvd-r.

Most if not all DVD players would not play it. For the same reason many DVD players will play a CD full of mp3's, but not a DVD.

You could convert the audio to 48KHz and then author as a DVD. Although the resulting disc still won't play on all players.

Same reason why most players won't play miniDVD or why most won't play mp3s off a DVD-R ... the players first check the type of media inserted and depending on that check, certain playback functions are enabled or disabled.
Example: Raite players don't play miniDVD. For some, the firmware was hacked to remove this check, thus enabling miniDVD-playback.

if a dvd player detects a dvd media in the drive it looks only if it contains dvd video and nothing more. it just doesnt check if the dvd contains any other data. stupid but true (maybe not for all).

Because there's no codec or task in the firmware could handle this weird format in every DVD player. Unlike PC, there's all codec and software we need to play anything we throw in.
