more than one vcd on a DVD-r?

Hi. I’m very interested in getting a DVD writer, but at the moment, all my movies are vcd's. I don't have the time to get them all in DVD quality, so I was thinking. Can’t I just put them on a few dvd-r's?

For example, a normal movie at vcd quality is about 1GIG, (split on two cd-r's). If I bought a DVD writer, would I be able to put 4 movies (in this case) onto one disk?

If so, I'd like to know how, and in what way I can choose which movie to play. I don't know how to make a menu, but can't I just press "next" on the standalone for it to go to the next movie??

Ps. this is to be played on a standalone DVD player.

I asked the same question here a few weeks back but didn't get an answer, either no one knows, or they can't be bothered to answer :)

I tried to burn a VCD on to DVD myself the other day, but it said the VCD had to be put on to a CD and not DVD. Don't ask me why, sounds damn stupid to me, I was hoping to do the same as you but I don't think it is possible. To me, VCD quality at 1.1mbps is hell of a lot better then 2.2mbps DVD quality, due to the higher resolution DVD needs. Sucks, as VCD on a DVD would be great, 5 hours worth on 1 disc.

ok, there is an old thread (or five) which deals with VCD on DVD, and its limitations.

while im looking for the thread, heres a couple of things to note:

- VCD audio is 44.1khz, DVD is 48khz

- VCD GOP size is larger than what is allowed on DVD

hmm, well i searched for "multiple vcd on dvd-r". i'm aware of the rules, but i can't go through every single phrase whcih can be used can I?
