best way to create mpgs for DVD

I have many avi files of our best vacations captured to PC on 1394 and would like to convert them to DVD Standard... is it better to use TMPGENc to do it [as in the fututre when I capture more and also easy to convert and add into dvd] to create the mpg2 file.I see that it creates only an MPG file. Do I need to split the MPG file into MV1 and MPa file ? What is the best and easiest can do that and also burnt it to DVDR at the same time without that sync problems ? Thanks

TMPGEnc can produce MPEG-2 output as well, as a 30-day demo, or purchased.

There are guides that will take you where you want to go...sort of.

In the Format Conversion Guides (http://www.doom9.org/conversionguides.htm) you'll find two guides that you can blend together: once there, try the AVI to VCD / SVCD guide and then the (S)VCD to DVD-R guide.

2.58 and 2.59 will encode elementary streams rather than forcing you to create a multiplexed stream which used to mean having to demultiplex afterwards, which was a real pain.

CCE and ProCocer are also good, but they cost way more than TMPGEnc and don't create MPEG of significantly better quality anyway.
