Have converted my hard drive partion to ntfc instead of fat32 I can get the end ok then, but EMPEG2 does not reconise ntfc file system

You're wrong. ReMPEG2 does recognise NTFS as i've tried that and it works ok. usually the *.m2v file is smaller than the vob files you have (because that file has the "compressed video") but is also smaller than the final vob's which will be on the DVD.
you probably messed up when you did that m2v file, by not having NTFS.
maybe the program stopped creating the file. i remember i once tried to create an image using imgtools on FAT32 and the program would create a file MOVIE.IMG and MOVIE.IMG.001
if you have the original DVD do the whole process again.
by the way what movie is it??? not that it matters...
:D
