Could this be the movie limit?

after capturing a episode of the simpsons , i have a 6gb file including ads in the middle :( so i opened vdub selected start/finish selected filters (dynamic noise reduction W/script support by donald graft/steven don/avery lee(31), then temporal smoother(5))
cropping (done on dynamic noise reduction filter)
codec (divx5)(1pass) ,compress sound to mp3 56k/s ,now heres my problem maybe its the limit of the captured file , maybe its all my smoothing (does this increase file size? i forget:o ), maybe its my codec totaly gone wrong. but the thing is, i captured another episode and everything worked out fine had a 110mb file , but this one no matter what bit rate i use comes out as a 708mb file :eek: thats both parts joined. i tried the same setting i.e (its the same length approx so i gave the same bit rate) i used the same filters and values. i cant see anything other than that it just cant be compressed anymore? oh i capture at 384x288 and then 368X280 (after cropping)

EDIT: Whoops using vdub 1.41 bitrate was 600 and also tried 300

filtering does increase compressibility, but the size doesn't seem right. try doing a 1-pass quantizer 2, and see the file size it gives you. if it gives you ~700mb again, then it is maxed out. this is one 30min episode right? what size are you shooting for? (110mb?).

as the file was about 6 gb i needed the space for other captures so i deleted it . im trying the encoded 700 mb file though to see it that makes a difference , its predicted the same as the other two? i think i might uninstall divx 5, as the data rate for all the encode and the file sizes are the same :confused: data rate: 597.645 size (part 1) 253mb (i.e 700mb AGAIN if JOINED!!!)... its strange because its not maxed out as it just occured to me that the file size is not being reached :eek: (i want a ile size of 100mb/200mb over all not 700 :()i hear cartoons are harder to compress but this is ridiculous , especialy when i have captured another episode and compresed it down to 110mb .it happend with another capture (music video) i could put in 10kbs it would still come out as 25mb . i will try using a different codec in a while see if that helps , i might try XVID or divx3.11 or maybe WMV.

ok it just finished ....wait for it ... using 1-pass quantizer 2 i got it down to 218mb :D picture is still great ,im very confused.:confused: <--- see

well XVID works fine :D 2pass using h.263 then modulated. usung settings recomended by doom9 guides. nic's latest bins. xvid was acting a bit weird i think its a lumamasking thing ...well another thing to investigate...*Picks up marker pen and adds it to "things to do.." board* ;)

Something is seriously wrong with your settings.

I encode episodes of the Simpsons. I do it straight to DIVX, and each episode is about 80 - 90 megs! If I could only get 20 mins on a CD-R, I wouldn't bother ;)

Perhaps your problem is sound related (are you sure the final output file contains MP3 audio?), or something it changing your bitrate on the sly. Or perhaps the advanced settings of DIVX have been changed. Or something.

yes i know! :eek: i have been using gknot which i supose could of changed something ? :confused: As i say XVID works fine , this could be my excuses to start seriously using XVID ? :D

For the Simpsons, try Helix Producer (RealVideo 9). It's not good for anything else, but it's the best for Simpsons!!

100MB per Episode are sufficient to get a perfect result without any blocks or mosquito noise (if the source is filtered well with temporalsoften and spatialsoften)

Thanks i will look in to that , my encode with XVID wasnt too bad , but i will have to compare the Real video 9 results .Thanks Cyph
