I have two 104's , Purchased the second one because I want to do disc to disc copy of my own DVD-R's . Upon using Prassi and selecting one drive to be reader and the other to record it goes through a test and comes up with: "Read speed 2.2 , Max record speed 1x" . I tried it out and it takes an hour to record, how come?
The media is 2x certified and they will record at 2x if recording an image off hard drive. Is it just me or is this the way it is when copying? If so DARN! Thought I was going to be making copies in 1/2 hour!

First of all you did not need to buy a second dvd-recorder to do disc to disc duplication. You could have bought a $45 DVD-ROM reader like the Pioneer DVD-117 to be your source drive (not to mention that writers like DVR-104 are usually slow readers anyway). Secondly, when reading from DVD-R discs (burned copies) the drive slows down, so you can realistically expect between 1.8x in the beginng of the DVD-R and around 5x toward the outer edge. That's true if you have 6X DVD-ROM reader or 16X DVD-ROM reader. The only time you see faster performance is when you read a pressed DVD (store bought).

heheh. i'm pretty shocked that you bought a 2nd recorder for this purpose :)
first off, you can only do disc to disc copying if the original is totally unprotected. if its encrypted like most dvd's are, you'll have to use some tool and they all want to copy it to the hard drive first.
second even if you could do this, you only need a READER for the disc you are copying. from what i've seen, my pioneer dvd-rw isn't a great reader..its kinda slow

OK, maybe I should have clarified somewhat , do not mean to be the butt of everyones joke here. I am well aware of the RW's slower reading however I am also making DVD-Rs off of my images on my HDrive (this way I can make two copies at once) so I am not ONLY doing disc to disc copies.
I am making copies of my own previous made DVD-Rs (no copy protection).
Now that I got through that.....I did find the solution someone may also encounter when trying this setup so maybe they will find this useful: Prassi would ONLY let me do a disc to disc copy at 1x, upon trying Nero 5.5.917 I have found that it does indeed let me do an "on the fly" copy at 2x (the resulting disc plays fine), I do not trust Nero's ability to record an image correctly so I am continuing using Prassi for that and will use Nero for Disc to Disc copies.
In case anyone else attempts this I would imagine you need some fairly serious cpu power to do two copies at once (I am running a P4 2.0) and a fast HDrive. The two DVD-R's are on the primary and secondary masters (alone) and my HDrives are on RAID ports being used as IDE ports, so far no hiccups.
