As a Newbie I have spent several weeks reading the forums & guides trying to copy VOBs to DVD-RW so that they will play back on my stand alone (Pioneer DV535). I already had a collection of movie only VOBs on my HDD ripped using VobDec & was trying to burn these to DVD-RW after using IfoEdit's (0.94) "Create IFOs" function.
Unfortunately, this was completely unsuccessful! - none would play back on the stand alone although the resulting files would play in IfoEdit's DVD player & the burned DVD would play OK on the computer (a fairly common state of affairs according to various postings!). I did all the usual things:-
* Renaming the VOBs in sequence starting VTS_01_1, VTS_01_2 to VTS_01_n etc
* Closing & re-opening IfoEdit & doing "Get VTS Sectors"
* Burning to a VIDEO_TS folder & creating an (empty) AUDIO_TS folder
* Burning with Nero 5.5.9.17 (using the wizard & just doing "Compile a new DVD" -> "Data DVD" -> "Create a new data DVD?" -> "Finish")
I was beginning to think that my stand alone was not compatible with DVD-RW (although various web checks said it was) or that it was a media problem. Then I tried ripping a DVD movie to HDD in DVD Decrypter & repeated the above process with IfoEdit on the movie VOBs only. This time success!! - it played fine in the stand alone. Very strange!
I still had the problem with my old "VobDec" ripped VOBs however. The trick I came up with was to use a small DVD Decrypter ripped VOB from the above (actually the MGM roaring lion logo) rename it to VTS_01_1 & continue with my VobDec VOBs as VTS_01_2, VTS_01_3 etc. Using IfoEdit & burning as above produced a working DVD on the stand alone - apart from the fuzzy green subtitles which can be turned off with the remote!
No doubt the expert contributors can explain this behaviour (I would be interested to hear it!) but I thought that the above might help anyone with a similar problem & shows that not all "Newbies" come posting for help without trying to solve their own problems first!!
