Problems joining AVIs - JFK movie

I'm having trouble joining JFK parts A and B in Nandub. I've followed the suggestions of others who posted in the forum, but each time I try to open the second file to append (after opening the first one and selecting direct stream copy), I get a message that the audio formats are different. Both AVIs were encoded with Gknot divx 5.02 pro 2pass, 160k mp3 audio (besweet). I double checked that the bitrates of video, audio, and other settings were the same between the two encodes. Framerates, etc. are all the same.

Any suggestions? I would like to get this to work so I can do it with Amadeus and other two-sided movies.

Is JFK in more than one part (i.e 2 dvds)? or do you mean that you have previously split the movie in order to fit on 2 cds etc? sorry i am not familiar with the movie.

JFK is an early DVD, from like 1997 or so, before dual-layer discs had really come into being. Hence, the disc is two sides with the movie almost equally split between two sides. What I'm attempting to do is to encode both sides individually with the same settings (resolution, bit rates, sampling rates, etc.), then join them into one file so there isn't any interruption in playback.

The way most people suggest is with nandub (since virtualdub doesn't support vbr mp3), but when I try to join the two files, I get an error, "Cannot append segment: The audio streams have different formats". My only thought is that it might work if I didn't do vbr, and just did cbr mp3, but that would be weak.

Probably best to join the MPEG2 segments before you encode to AVI, since MPEGs are generally easy to join.

Well, I did a test of encoding the two JFK parts with CBR audio, then using nandub, and it worked great. But, I'd like toget it to work with VBR.

You mentioned MPEG joins? How is that done? I've tried adding the VOBs from both sides into DVD2AVI, but that doesn't work because the audio delay is different between the two sides (-44ms, -100ms), so the audio ends up being out of sync.

Any ideas?

If I remember, you can use DVD2AVI to rip the audio from each section, add the skew in audio (that makes it asynch) and then transcode the audio into whatever format you want, making it no longer asynch, but I forget what program can edit the audio.

You obviously know how to rename the vobs or get dvd2avi to make one large .d2v project, so that's not the problem here :D

Ok, so use ac2delay corrector, and add the appropriate delay to each audio track :D

you could also join the avis with NO audio and then join the audio using cool edit etc and then insert the sound file again using nandub. the skew should already be done for you if you have to working parts ...i think
