Authoring gives buffer underruns all the time

Hi ..

I Wonder if more people have problems with (re)authoring (st)ripped dvd's.
Whenever i want to reauthor a dvd it will give me buffer underruns at the end.
I read that this is not happening whenever no subs are used, but i want to have subs included.
Is there already a solution or did you already confirm this derrow ??
Would like to see if this gets addressed into a future version would make it more attractive to me.
However hats off to larry , nice job until now this is proven to be a a very powerful tool.

I take it that your movie was too big, you RE-ENCODED it, and you want to author with subs. There's a couple of threads in this forum about ifoedit 0.95's authoring features and it's workaround but you would have to do a search. What are you using for authoring?

Well thanks for your reply , but to get one thing straight ...
I've been looking into this problem now for weeks , i searched
this forum, dvddecrypter's forum, google and lots of other sources.
I'm definately not a newbie so i know what i'm talking about.
I have ripped a movie (several upto now) with the same problem :

I rip them with dvddecrypter, strip unneccesary streams while ripping
the file is < 4.3 gb , so i create new ifo's with ifoedit while editing out
the stripped subs and languages manually.
Files play great in pdvd4 but when played in Pioneer/raite/pioneer
when using chapters sometimes some chapters are skipped and
sometimes it gets stuck,fast forwarding does sometimes freez the
screen for minutes and then skips at once five minutes.

So as workaround for this problem i demux all streams with vobedit 06
save the celltimes, author a new dvd with ifoedit and then the problem
reoccurs over and over.
I saw lots of people stating they have the same problem while bugrapporting
it when 095 was in beta, but noone seems to know how to solve this since
even derrow did not respond (at least in public) to the bugrapports.

some titles that give me the freez problem :
hearts in atlantis, collateral damage, swordfish

It is possible that i'm doing something wrong but it's weird that i can backup
100 dvd's without a problem and 5 or so give me such a hard time.
if at least the authoring worked for me i could dou it like this.
I have dvd-it for authoring to but it does not allow me to de dd 5.1.

So sorry if my previous post was not informative enough i hope that
someone recognizes this and has a solution or at least can confirm
that this is a problem.

I used to do it that way but by habit, as soon as I get the DVD, I just pop it in and rip all the files to HD using Smartripper. I haven't used DVD Decryptor for months. I could actually delete it off my harddrive. Anyway, I analyze the movie and do necessary strips using ifoedit 0.95. After some tweaks here and there, I just burn it with imgtools 0.99.5.

This is my normal procedure. If I get any freezes or glitches while playing the DVD in the standalone, I just pretty much say it's the media as I'm using Phillips and Memorex brands.

I think 2Cool is right.

But I still can't see any Josephus' error ;) You have to lookout for it somewhere between authoring and burning. It might be some hardware conflict or you just need some driver or bios update. Defragmenting should be also done more frequently.You might even consider some other DVD burning software. But this really sounds like cheep DVD media. If you use CCE keep max video rate on 9000 K/s to leave enough space for all other streams. These are just hints, you'll have to trial & error and to be patient :D

Thanks for your 2 cents , but i'm sorry to say so but your reply does not add anything usefull to
my problem.
It looks more and more that indeed dvddecrypter has a glitch with 1 out of every 25 dvd's or so.
it will not rip them properly if streams are immediately stripped from the stream.
I tried several others now with ifoedit as stripping tool and haven't had a problem since.
I will receive 3 dvd's that went wrong after the weekend and i'll retry ripping the way i did and the way 2cool told me to see if i can replicate the problem and if this is the solution.
Defragmenting and shit does not solve any of this , defragmenting is only with timed stuff (like capturing) a real problem.
I have 80 gig only for rips and so the files are deleted after completion so it is filled structured over and over.
Bios update or burning soft does noet help either ... i burned more then 150 different titles and only 5 or so went wrong like this ...

Hello Josephus,

I know the problem.
The best way of doing this is to decrypt all the files to HD and then startup Ifoedit.
Load then main movie .ifo and do a stream strip.
In the "strip screen" also tick:

- Create new ifo's (movie only)
- Remove II/vu angle pointer

When done do a Get VTS Sectors and write it to a blank DVD.
The same problem happened to me with Spiderman and The Scorpion King.
But that is when the final movie is below 4.5 GB.
If not, you can do a split from the ripped/corrected movie and it also should be running fine.

I just tried to give you a hint where to look for the suspects.
Even you have burned 150 (I'm somewhere around 300) there's always something new to learn. DVDdecrytpter can't be the reason 'cause you watch your move from your HD correctly. So, forget about it. You better try to record the same movie on at lest three different medias before jumping to any conlusion. Every cheap pack has at least 10 % of sh*t. Good luck.

It turns out that you are wrong (again) :-)

I never stated i couldn't play the movie from my HD properly, it does play great in powerdvd, just not on any of my standalone players.
I never said i don't or can't learn anything new, i just would like to let you know that i learned the things you pointed out to me for years now.
And i also know that most of the things you pointed out are not in relation to my problem.
Also if you use cheap dirt and have 10% coasters my advice to you is , buy better stuff it is really worth it ..
However there are people that pointed me to dvddecrypter as being the suspect, and guess what they're right from the start.

If you rip and strip at the same time with dvddecrypter it can go wrong, and in my case it did several times.
I now rip with dvddecrypter but do not touch the stream anymore, Ifoedit may strip and reengineer the ifo's ... no problems anymore .... even the ones giving me hard times at the start.

But thanks anyway .. it's always good if people try to help ...
