WinSubMux problem when muxing 2 subtitles w/ DVD2SVCD

Hi all,

I have this problem with DVD2SVCD. So far I've used version .9 and everything worked. Then I switched to the latest build 1.1.0 1c and I keep getting errors. The whole process runs OK until subtitle muxing, then it (WinSubMux, I suppose) just displays error box, and all i can do is stop the whole process. The important thing (i believe)is that I select to rip 2 subtitles when this happens. When I select only one language, everything works fine. Here's the log file (even though everything looks fine in log). I use win98SE and have enough RAM (256Mb) and disk space. :) I always rip with DVD decrypter from DVD to hard drive, then I run D2S on those files from HDD (worked OK so far). It happened on 3 different DVDs. In all 3 cases, everything went fine if I selected only 1 subtitle language.

First and foremost DVDdecrypter is the worst ripper to use with DVD2SVCD. We do not support it here because way to many problems have been reported when using it with DVD2SVCD.
You need to re-rip with one of the two included rippers. We can not help with problems until we know the ripping is done with a known compatable ripper.

For those that come back with I have done 100 good rips with it and never had a problem. We don't care. There is a reason behind the madness. This isn't without cause or proof.

Huh, thought ripping is only making exact copy of the files on the disk...

Until latest version, I used this approach to rip all of my DVDs (approx 15-20) and it worked OK.

OK, but the reason I used other ripper than built-in is that I sometimes have problems ripping DVD in disk mode (internal ripper just hangs), so i use file mode of an extarnal ripper to rip the remaining .VOBs...

Thanx anyway, I'll retry with 1 of 2 builting rippers.

OK, another issue.

I did it all over again. This time with only 1 subtitle. Everything went fine, except...

I got 2 .bin files, first ~700+Mb, second only 500Mb!!! I have setup for CD size 790Mb (10 mb less just to be on the safe side - couple of times images couldn't fit the CD because they wer too big!), and I always got proper size with previous versions of D2S! The second file was usually 20-30Mb smaller than the first, and that's OK. But 250Mb?

Any thoughts?

I'm considering going back to 1.0.9 :(

There are a number of factors that can affect proper cd size calculation, please do a search :)

I got your same problem... and I presume you're still using Windows 98. Am I right?

I noticed that if you have more than 850-860 subtitles to insert WinSubMux is not able to handle them in its buffer but this only happens in Windows 98SE (at least on my PC), sometimes if you want to encode just one subtitle stream you end up fine but if you put another stream you probably end up with an error...

I solved this problem switching to Windows XP, I even used the recover function of DVD2SVCD on my dual-boot system and it worked just fine on XP (well, I had to tweak the files a little bit since on Win98SE the ripped stuff was on my H: drive and on WinXP they were on the I: drive but I managed to fix them all)

So if you wanna add subtitles is better if you do it in WinXP environment :)
