I have been reading here for sometime now and I must admit I am a bit confused as to all the different media, what is crap media, what is good and I have not seen much about RW media. Now it also seems that some stores that used to be good are going bad.

I just went and did a stupid thing and bought the Sony DRU500A. I should have it next week sometime. Now I need media and cost, not speed, is an issue. I would also like a couple RW media so I can test my making of DVD's without incouring a huge cost and I could also keep some on my HD and just burn when I want to watch.

I know it's been asked a hundred times before, but what media for the lowest cost should I get for this burner? I would prefer -R right now based on cost. I don't mind getting a 50 or a 100 pack and right now I don't care if it's 1,2 or 4X media. I just want to get started. Faster would be nice, but I do not have alot of money.

What RW media is around? What is the best value around?

I am in the States BTW.

Thanks for putting up with my redundant question.

For DVD-R media, get Ritek G03 or G04 at http://www.hypermicro.com/ The G03 will work at 2x with the latest firmware upgrade and the G04 will work at 4x. As far as RW... i'm not sure. The drive comes with one Sony DVD+RW and you can use that to do you "trials". Hope that helps.

I obviously do not know alot about media, but I came across allmedia outlet selling Ritek discs a little cheaper since they have free shipping, but they don't give a Ritek part number. Are these the G03?

I have bought CDR's from them before and they seemed OK.

I couldnt tell you about that place. Those discs only say 1x though. And... its only about $3 more for a 25 pack at the other place.
