View Full Version : 2CD Setting end up w/ 3CD's using frame selection

DigitalMarine

Hi,

I'm using frame selection since it was available, because it is a nice feature until an automatic "cutting by chapter" is integrated ;)

But now for the first time I end up with 3CD's even though I set up DVD2SVCD doing a 2CD version.

Here comes the log

DVD2SVCD Settings:
0-53 Min use 1 80Min CDs
54-106 Min use 2 80Min CDs
Max Bitrate at 2500 (because of 2 Audio Streams)
Min Bitrate at 300
Min Avg unchecked

Can someone tell why it happens and how to get rid of it?

When doing the addition of the seconds of the two sections the total time is 109 minutes. This is bumping DVD2SVCD into using the next section that would read
if a movies total length is 106-??? use 3 CD's at ???-???? bitrate.
I am guessing it says 3 cd's since DVD2SVCD used 3 cd's.

I think you are falling into the common mistake thinking the sections build on one another. They don't. If the total length of the movie does not fit in a time section DVD2SVCD keeps moving on until it hits a match. Then uses the information in that section only. Even when doing frame selection.

One word of advice if you plan to play these on a DVD player raise your audio bitrate to at least 160. Most DVD players have issues with 128kbit audio.

Well,

DVD2SVCD is telling me movie length of 104.08 Mins. Adding 5 sec. (5 x 25 fps = 125 frame) overlap is an overall length of 104.58 Min - for me anyway. Am I Wrong calculating this way? Where is the problem?
http://www.fensterbild.de/audio/pic.png
My RedStar DVD Stand-Alone Player is happy with 128kbit per language and I have more bitrate for the video-encoding, but I will give 2 x 192kbit audio a try and take a look at the video quality.

It seems my math was wrong and the movie is slightly longer then 104 minutes, not the 109 I originally thought.

IFO files can be wrong, but after doing the math again I did get 104.?? for minutes.

Only thing I can figure is it's a bug with frame selection and two audio streams.

You can either just remux the mp2 and mpv to larger BIN files if your DVD layer will handle slightly overburned discs (most do) or you will have to re-encode the video and force a smaller MAX AVG bitrate.

I can help you with whichever you choose to try if you need it. Just let me know which one. If you choose the remux tell me the size of the third BBmpeg_muxed_file03.mpg file so I can be sure it can be done easily enough.

Hi Mark,

thanks for Your offer, but it seems, that the single files are to large to get fit on 2 x 80Min CD-R's

CD1

Audio1: 45,5 MB (47.710.459 Bytes)
Audio2: 45,4 MB (47.709.623 Bytes)
Video: 683 MB (717.122.100 Bytes)
Mux: 792 MB (830.936.904 Bytes)
Bin: 803 MB (842.933.280 Bytes)

CD2

Audio1: 50,0 MB (52.501.943 Bytes)
Audio2: 50,0 MB (52.501.525 Bytes)
Video: 860 MB (902.423.080 Bytes)
Mux: 794 MB (833.411.964 Bytes)
Bin: 805 MB (845.078.304 Bytes)

CD3

Mux: 186 MB (195.755.168 Bytes)
Bin: 190 MB (199.715.376 Bytes)

I think, the easiest way is to re-encode the movie and give DVD2SVCD a bit more range to calculate, but I wait for Your solution ;)

markrb

That would be too much to burn on an 80 minute CD-R, you are right.
So you do need to re-encode the video.

If you are going to keep the audio at 128(which I think is yukky, but it's your audio) then change the MAX AVG bitrate to 2040. This will not allow DVD2SVCD to go above that bitrate and should be just about right for what you want, it's a few points smaller, but best to be on the safe side. If you are doing recover make sure to input the bitrate after you load the d2s file.
