View Full Version : Where do you buy your DVD-R's from?

As subject states, just wondering what online shops people are buying their DVD-R's from.

I've used Shop4Tech twice now to get their PrimeDisc (ritek g3's), and both times I've had problems getting my package, first time after 3 weeks I got fed up and called, they fedex'd me the package overnight, original still hasn't arrived. Ordered a 2nd batch, it will be 3 weeks in a couple days and still no sign of them. So I vow not to order from them again.

So what else is out there? It's tough going thru site after site looking for what you want at a good price.. Should we make a good list of online shops with good prices? In my case they have to ship to Canada, maybe list out the site name and where they are located and where they will/won't ship to?

Shop4tech stole me 45 euros, never delivering my package, never answering to any mail, online forms or fax.

Well I decided to be proactive. I ordered on Monday and thought I'd just call them and find out whats happening. The guy says it's going out today. Hopefully he's telling the truth :)

To answer your question, I've read of a few Canadians (I think I will be next) order from www.hypermicro.com . I wish I found out about shop4tech's probs earlier.. Oh well, live and learn..

Thanks,
Stephen

i use www.supermediastore.com , but i live in the us, and am not sure if they ship to canada. I have ordered 3 sets of riteks (25,100,100) and have not had any problems with a single disc on my dvd-rom or memorex player. hope it works out for you

scimani2 - unfort they dont ship to the canucks (me being one of them). I did like how they sell a "test pack". 2 blanks from a bunch of diff manufacturers. Price was "ok". But does save some money when compared to ordering in bulk and being screwed that it doesnt work on your burner. I wish some more media outlets would do the testpacks as well.

After my harrowing experience with Shop4Tech, I will only buy from Rima.com - a true class act. :)

brutallo2002, are you Canadian? If so, how much brokerage did UPS charge you? (I noticed Rima only ships by UPS to Canada :() UPS is known to be a true thief when it comes to importing from the US. I wonder if Rima would consider shipping by USPS. :)

I'm also looking into buying from Rima.com now, their prices seem about the same, maybe better on the Ritek discs. 100 pack for $79 US isn't too bad!

Only problem is I require DVD cases as well. Just the spindle will cost $20 via UPS to ship to Canada, add in the 100 cases, and wamma it goes up to $50! On exchange that's alot of money for regular 7-10 day shipping.. oh well, maybe I'll just order the spindle. I prefer UPS shipping since I at least get a tracking # so I know it's on it's way. With Shop4Tech's USPS shipping, no tracking #, so no idea if it's even been mailed out yet.

Any other stores like Rima around? Now I'll try to see who has the better shipping rates..:)

im going with hypermicro next time. Since they do a fair amount of Canadian shipping appearntly. That and of course they sell some 4x blanks as well.

Sure it's nice to have tracking and stuff but IMO, the extra costs involved with dealing with UPS don't quite cut it (I think their *minimum* brokerage fee is like $20CDN!!). I've received dozens of items via USPS and have never had a problem ever.. That's just me though :)

As for DVD cases, there's a guy from Toronto on ebay selling DVD cases and charges $15US shipping. If you're gonna buy cases, you probably should buy them on this side of the border. I've never dealt with the guy before but I think that's where I will be getting cases from. It'll save you paying brokerage fees + duty (is there duty on dvd cases or dvd-r's?).. Plus it's cheaper for shipping as well.

If you find any other places that ship to Canada (or even better are located in Canada) I'd be happy to know of them. :) I wanna find a good supplier before January; that proposed levy is going to hurt.

If I find another good site that ships to Canada I'll mention it as well.

I emailed Hypermicro to ask what their shipping costs to Canada were. The guy told me $20US + their normal US shipping prices. OUCH! He must think we're on the other side of the world or something. :(

I guess we just don't have many choices here.. Hopefully someone will open shop in Canada and sell Ritek's at decent prices.. :)

Sounds like rima.com might not be that bad afterall.. Even if we have to deal with the devil (UPS). It sounds like it'll be the cheapest option to Canadians next to shop4tech.

Oh man, we're getting hammered with these shipping costs! I notice that if you buy almost anything else via online shops, the shipping costs aren't nearly this high. I bought 2 MP3 car decks from 2 different online stores, paid about $15 US tops for UPS 5-10day shipping..

I guess I'm going to go with Rima.com, Shop4Tech is definately out of the question for a repeat purchase. Today is the 16th of Dec. I ordered my discs on the 23rd of Nov. Mail is slow, but should it take over 3 weeks?

It has also been over 2 months now since my first order with them, the package they supposedly sent via USPS still hasn't arrived. My guess is they never sent it.

An online shop located in Canadian with decent DVDR's would be a god send! I'd wet my pants and order a few hundred the minute I saw such a shop :)

Not sure what happened with shop4tech, but I've ordered tons of Prime Discs through them and never had a problem ( At least 25 times)

Well, I finally got my order from shop4tech.com (nearly a month later). I placed the order on December 9th and the order didn't ship until the 19th. Anyways, just thought I'd update everyone. 10 days is a little lengthy to ship an item that was paid immediately and was supposedly in stock. As such I will definitely not buy there again. Hopefully by the time I need more, there will be a place in Canada that sells them. :) Ok that's wishful thinking but you never know..

Well I just ordered from supermediastore for the first time. I know they're related to meritline, but I really wanted to buy a few dvd's, not a spindle like the other shops sell.

Normally I buy from RIMA.COM, they've been really good.

I got some cd labeling pens from Shop4Tech and they were all dry and useless!!! Who knows how old these stupid pens were?

I ordered from Shop4tech for the first time in December.

Placed order on Nov30th, goods (50 RITEK DVD+R) arrived on Dec13th by USPS(17$). Considering im from east europe, its not bad I guess :p

Maybe i was lucky or something, but my experience with shop4tech is good you see.

I think a good addition to this thread would be to list the FOB (shipping point) and the destination (where you live) in this thread. Obviously, longer distances will merit longer shipping times. 2-3 week lead time from CA to parts of Cananda wouldn't surprise me. Another note as well...I am not sure how many other people in the forum are UPS Customers, but I know in order to ship packages out of the US, we are required to fill out some export customs papers. With heightened security in the US over the past year, and more now because of the war. No one wants to be the responsible company for sending the package that makes the headline for being sent to a terrorist. Great measures are taken in the US to send these packages out of the country. Partly because of our new rules and regulations here in the states and also your own countries as well.
As the one thread stated Shop4tech shipped fast from California to Arizona. I am going to purchase from them simply as a test. I live in Ohio, so it should take 1-2 days to process the order, and 4-5 transit via UPS.

I just bought some DVD cases from shop4tech and got free shipping and they got here in 7 days UPS ground. I was also looking at ordering some Ritek combo pack that comes with cases from meritline anybody had any luck with them??
