I can play DVD+RW just fine in my APEX 1200, but not DVD+R burnt using the same method.

I used DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO) mode in Nero to burn. I know also some people did suggest using DVD-ROM (UDF) mode, which I will try next time.

My question is if my set-top player does play DVD+RW and NOT DVD+R, does it mean the method I used is the correct one and if I used some other methods, will it be the same result? (In other words, can I just attribute this to the set-top player compatibility)

dgwak,
I had a similar problem with Nero 5.5.9 and my Apex AD800 with +R media. I had 1.6 GB of video files on a + R and it wouldn't play on the Apex. It would play on the DVD ROM on the pc however. A +RW with the same files did play on the APEX. After some experimentation, I determined I needed between 2 and 2.5 gb of files on the +R disk before it would play on the APEX standalone. It has something to do with the surface reflectivity of the media. Hope this helps.

I found out that the same DVD+R that did not play on Apex 1200 does play on Apex 1600.

So, it's gotto be the compatiblity issue with that set-top player.

Ever tried burning DVD+R using imgtool 0.99.5?

I tried imagetool089 without any success.

Would 099 be any different?

Nope...no difference at all!

I still think it's the player compatibility problem...DVD-R seems bit more compatible than DVD+R (From what I read at least)...

I hope that will change soon. :D

My APEX 703 will not play DVD backups using DVD Decryptor, IFOEdit, and NERO burn. They will play on my JVC XA900 set top, Pioneer A05 burner, and my Toshiba laptop. What is interesting is that when I backup Adult DVDs using NERO (they are not CSS protected) using the same media (cheapies purchased at PC Club) they work. The OEM DVD-RW that came with the burner does not play on the Apex either.

My Riteks will be in soon and we'll see what will happen. My APEX does play Prime Disc DVD-Rs burned on a Pioneer A04. I hope it is just the cheap media I am using.
