Help with Menu Creation

I want to make my own menu for the dvd-r's i make. I have read several guides and I cant seem to find how to do it. It starts off by saying I must save all my menu pictures in bmp format. How do i get the menu pictures off the original menu on the source dvd? Is there a guide out there that i am missing?

You can use things like the "capture" function in PowerDVD player to grab the image. Strip the "subtitle" stream of the VOB and you'll have the mask. However, it's a lot of work that usually is NOT worth the effort. Much easier to just reintegrate the project in with the original menu and leave the menu alone.

I tried that with jurassic park but for the life of me I cant get that movie to work at all. the only way i got it to work was just to put the main movie on dvd-r and that wont go on the dvd-r in widescreen!!
