I'm looking for a complete tutorial on how to include the original menus...I've searched the forums, but it seems the main movie is the concern for everyone. If you know of a way to include the original menus, no extras, please let me know step by step, thanks.

Well, CCE is an mpeg2/1 encoder. It has nothing to do with menus.

Look up IFOEDIT on the web, and read the faq's concerning that wonderful utility. There's also an IFOEDIT forum here that you can browse through. IFOEDIT will let you back up a DVD and keep the menus

You can re-encode the m2v stream from motion menus with CCE if you want to reduce the size just as with the main movie.Prodigy3682,please read doom9's excellent tutorials.

Well he didn't say that's what he wanted to do. He only said he wanted to keep the original menus.
I've never bothered trying to reduce the size of those "motion" menus. Seems like an incredible waste of time re-encoding those little clips!??

You would not normally re-encode menus but it can be a quick way to shave 10-50mb off your project if your calculations were slightly off.

im having the same problem atm. i was about 40 megs off and simply wanted to encode the menu, i successfully did so exactly as i would do the main movie except that the buttons on the menu do not work. any suggestions?

There really is no such thing as buttons on a menu mpeg2 file. What you have to do is create them. So, extract the mpeg2. Then, goto dvd2avi and get a screen capt of each menu. Then, open each cap in photoshop and create a white background with a black button overlay on the image where you want the button to appear. Then just save the white image w/black button at 720x480 to a jpg and import it into maestro. Add the mpeg as your main menu and then add the overlay as the background. Then just fix the colors for the button and draw a selection over where it is and that's basically it. Obviously this made no sence if you don't know how to create normal buttons in maestro but I'm not about to explain that since there are a ton of guides. So if you are confused, go read them, but if this made sense then that is all ya need to do to get menus successfully transferred over using maestro. ;)

By the way, I have yet to do this myself but am 90% positive this is the correct approach. The only other idea I can think of if this does not work is to create a mpeg2 out of the still white background / black button image. I don't think this is necessary though. The first explantion should work fine.

Actually, it's a lot easier to use Subrip on the VTS_X_0.VOB file to get the original subpicture overlays (if you rip in SST [Scenarist] format, then you can get the overlays in BMP format).

Otherwise, that explanation sounds right.
