While I am not suggesting that there is no speed increase as a result of the hacking of the Huffy codec, bastioned, if you read more carefully the original thread to which you refer, you will see that a reasonable, although not concrete, consensus was arrived at regarding the fact that the hacking itself was not necessarily the biggest factor in the claimed speed increases. I will not re-describe all that was discussed about this issue - just read the thread again.

In short, I don't think you should worry yourself too much about using the hacked codec instead of the normal one. The strengths of the Huffy codec method when using CCE are explained very clearly in the original thread - i.e. when you are using an SMP rig, or if you are using filtering and are making multiple passes.

Well Arky , I indeed read the whole article and, to be honest, would like to "run the risk" of getting the most I can from anything at my hand, be it a single hacked file or any other method. Of course, I agree with you, that a SMP system is the final solution ( well let´s say almost ) but my SMP system is devoted to other matters, so I´m sold here with my single AMD. And, by the way, you say that one situation that could get benefit from this little file would be filtering or doing multipass, tell me then, who doesn´t do at least 2 passes with CCE, or resizes the video? ( take the last one with a grain on salt, I´m not 100 percent sure that resizing is the same as filtering ).
I´d appreciatte some more insight in this matter :D Answers welcomed

I went into hybernation from my exams but am back. Just to clear up some confusion. We came to a determination that unless you do major filtering, the normal huffy codec will not help you. The hacked huffy codec is exactly 100% (2x) faster than the huffy codec you can all d/l. Here is the speed rundown:

Normal Huffy: .955 in CCE to 720x480
Vfapi + Resize: 1.10 in CCE to 720x480
Hacked Huffy: 2.10 in CCE to 720x480

These results are scalable so information on the sytems is not really important. That is the comparsion between the three major options that a user has in CCE. The hacked/modified codec aint avail since it had no source. ;( I support open source just as much as the next guy but would like to see such an amazing program made available to everyone. But, unless the mods change their minds, people will be stuck at .955.

I don´t get the point, let me explain: you actually have it installed, right? Then , is it so hard to locate the files, dlls , zip them ? We´re talking about a codec that composes of no more than lets say 5 files? The installation ,say hacked or not, is just copying the files over the System32 folder and registering the inf... so don´t know what this compiling story is about... just send the files as is and stuff done. And, if the mods don´t allow you to attach them, e-mail them, our emails are at hand in the forum.

The Huffyuv codec that get's installed by DVD2SVCD reports itself to be "Huffyuv v2.1.1 - CCESP Patch v0.2.2" (for instance in DVD2AVI). Is that what you are looking for?

No, they are talking about a hacked older version which was temporarily posted here in the forums until it was determined to be a violation of the GPL since the source files were not made available.

I had it installed, but have since removed it from my system. I didn't get a chance to test it, but I did notice it was an older version (maybe 1.3.1). Also I remember looking at some of the included files (it had some dev files like .ncb, .opt, and huffyuv.h, but no huffyuv.cpp) it had entries like HuffyUV_1.3.1_MODDED_FOR_CCESP, so it apeared to be specificly optimized for CCESP.

The Version 0.2.2 available for download from doom9 is also modded for CCE, but only to the extent that it allows CCE to get YUV ouput, saving a color converstion and giving a nice bump in speed, but not 2x.
