Any utils to allow modifying CD images WITHOUT re-compiling?

I'm looking for a util that will properly mount a disc image (ISO, bin/cue, etc.) and then allow modifying it. The particular images I'm trying to work with have multiple directory entries for a common file (the same file is linked in multiple directories.)

This is a great way to save space on a disc but makes it darn near impossible to edit.

It's also something I've not figured out how to duplicate. Many of the discs I make have multiple instances of the same video clips. If there is a way to optimize the master such that one file is linked in multiple directories, I'd find it incredibly helpful.

These are data cds, not some form of video. Please don't suggest to me VCD/SVCD/DVD authoring methods because that's an entirely different topic.

Well i know of two programs WinISO www.winiso.com or UltraISO www.ultraiso.com . Neither of them are freeware though. but they might do the job that you need by loading and able to edit the files inside of the iso, bin/cue files.

Well, I'll be darned. WinISO will allow adding directories to an image. Cool.

Well i really have no clue how you are doing it.. but one thing you might look into is using Graphedit saved files named as .avi and haveing the Paths removed outta them with a program here on doom9's site.. But i belive new DirectX's have problem with this because they add like Root drive letter or something to the paths which makes them invalid.. But beyond that i have no idea how to do what you want..

I don't think that will work. The CDs I'm making are a collection of "saved as HTML" PowerPoint presentations with MPEG-1 files for video.

It should be possible to have multiple directory entries on the Joliet CD actually point to the same data file as long as the name is the same.

That's what I'm trying to do. It's not a content authoring question, per se, it's one of how to modify the actual CD layout. This is somewhat similar to multi-angle DVD authoring but only in the aspect of multiple paths to one data set.

Yeah, I know it's not a common operation.

UltraISO's page talks about compacting the data so it fits better on the disc. I've sent them a message (thanks for the link) and hopefully they'll have an answer.
