Fox Mulder,
I cant do it in Winamp ;(
When playing a WMA file and configuring the output as 'NullSoft Disk Writer' it still only plays the song and not create a WAV file.
This method does create a WAV file when playing a MP3 file.
thanks for any help

I personally use dBpowerAMP Music Converter.
Great app
You could try wma2wav (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Audio/Wma2wav.zip)
Just changes the header though..

That's the readme from the plugins pack mentioned below. These plugins could be semi-legal, so I suppose I'm not allowed to post a direct link here. If you're interested, drop a line here or let me know of your e-mail address to send you the necessary plugins.
Of course this trick works just fine to all Winamp v2.xx
I just discovered a way to convert WMA files with the Microsoft WINAMP/WMA plug-in (in_wm.dll) version 1.00, from Winamp version 2.5 (and 2.6).
First, download and install John Adcock's Output Splitter plug-in (it lets you use two output plug-ins at once) from http://www.adcock8.freeserve.co.uk/winamp.htm.
Then open Winamp, go to Winamp Preferences/Plug-ins/Output, and double-click on "Split output plug-in". In the first box, make sure it says "Plugins\out_wave.dll". In the second box, type in the output plug-in of your choice (e.g. "Plugins\out_disk.dll", "Plugins\out_mp3.dll", or "Plugins\out_enc.dll"). Click on the Close button, close Winamp Preferences, and play the file(s) you want to convert.
Once you're done, don't forget to switch back to your regular output plug-in (usually "Nullsoft waveOut plug-in" or "Nullsoft DirectSound plug-in"), or else you'll fill up your hard drive with copies of every song you play pretty quickly. (It's easy to forget, because you'll still hear your songs play while they're being copied to disk.)
Note that this only works with in_wm.dll up to version 1.0. It does not work with version 1.1 or higher.
Just to clarify, you can use this trick with the latest versions of Winamp (2.61-2.65), just so long as you use the in_wm.dll that came with an older version of Winamp. All you have to do is install the old version of Winamp (e.g. 2.5e), copy its in_wm.dll file to a temporary folder, reinstall Winamp 2.65, and then copy the old in_wm.dll back into your Winamp/Plugins folder overwriting the new in_wm.dll.
