View Full Version : Start with specific chapter on disk 2

In the guides there is the instruction to start directly the movie on the second disk (by changing in VIDEO_TS.IFO -> VMGM_MAT -> First Play PGC the command with (JumpTT)Jump to Title: x )but if I want to start the movie at a different chapter?
Is there something to change with Ifoedit to obtain this result?
I've tried different commands but always got "An illegal navigation command was encountered"
Any advice?
Thank you in advance.

Old question but unfortunately no answer until now :(
I've exactly this problem - so does anybody know a solution?
Many thanks.

The video manager is in Video_ts.ifo from there you jumpto the title manager which is in VTS_0*_1.IFO.
Here there are several ways of jumping to a chapter - the easiest being : (copied in part from from A simple menue - easy!)
Hit the plus sign next to VTS_PGCICI to open it up. Now open VTS_PGC_1. Page down a way (5 pages) till you find the PGC command table, "There is no PGC command table"
Now right click on this and choose "add Pre Command", following which an empty command appears. Now right click the command and choose "edit".
In the dialog pick Jump to chapter.
I'm not sitting at a machine with a DVD IFO on it right now so the command may be different.
If there is already a complicated menu structure this may not be possible due to conflicts in the logic.
- try it and let me know - theres always a way....

@maa: thx for your answer.
a little bit more background:
I want to copy a movie, which comes on two disks.
I ripped (via DVD Decrypter) the movie *only* (no menu) from every
disk and let IFoEdit create the new IFO files.
After this I burned the DVD's with Nero.
Disk 1 runs well.
But with Disk 2 my player starts to search for the chapters 1-34,
which are on the first disk!? It takes 20 seconds until the player
find the first real / existing chapter (= No. 35).
Not really what I want...
That's the reason, why I'm trying to start the second disk directly
from chapter 35.
Before I tried your approach I did this:
with DVD Decrypter I *deselected* (chapter selection otion) on the
second disk the chapters of the first one (1-34).
After this I used IFO-Edit to create the IFO files.
And the result: the second disk starts with chapter "35"! Wow!
BUT: the fact is, it's not really chapter 35. It's chapter ONE!
With my approach I created a new directory on the second disk:
(Disk1: Chapter 1-34)
Disk2: Chapter 1-26 (which is really 36-60!!!).
So it's not the requested chapter jump - but works fine!!!
Your approach doesn't work in my case. The DVD player hangs...
It seems to be difficult to do a chapter jump?!
Well, I found a workaround for my prob...
Thx a lot!

@Silix_s
Did you retain your menus for your movie?

I didn't.

Sorry - I somehow missread what you were trying to do.
So basically you want to re-name the chapters to start with "1".
Have you tried Ifoedit- Vob Extras / strip streams + create new IFOs?
Personally I always copy the whole film to the HD and never get this problem - IFO edit can split to two disks too.

well, either this or a jump to the *first* chapter (=35).
I don't want the player to count the non existing chapters on disk 2 (1 to 34).

Yes I did. But I got 60 chapters on disk 2 (with chapter 35 to 60 as "real" chapters)

But the film comes on TWO disks (it's not a one-disk-to-two-disk-backup).
As I mentioned before: when I force Decrypter to skip chapter 1 to 34 at the decrypting of the 2nd disk (which is strange, cause the chapters 1 to 34 don't really exist) it works fine: 26 chapters (1 to 26) on disk 2. The player starts immediately. No counting...
I guess you can do the same with editing the IFO files (renaming chapters etc.) - but it seems to be more work.
In my opinion there are two solutions: create chapter 35 to 60 on the 2nd disk as chapter 1 to 26 (like I did), or a jump to the chapter 35 immediately after the start.

or a jump to the chapter 35 immediately after the start. Like I said above - and - does it work ?
The original seems to be strangely authored...
