Avi to dvd

Ok i have spiderman on my computer in avi format. Now an i convert it to dvd to watch it on my dvd player?
Coz the dvd player does not play vcd's
can any1 help me here

If the VCD player does not play VCD, is it because it doesn't accept CDR or CDRW media (sometimes), or because it doesn't accept the format (more rarely)? You can check your player at www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers if you haven't already done so.

Some players can play CVD, also known as miniDVD, which is DVD data structures on CDR or CDRW.

Your player might play one of the many "burnable" DVD formats, also, which the vcd database might tell you. You'd need the appropriate DVD burner, of course.

In all cases where you're going from .avi files to VideoCD or DVD format, you'll be re-encoding into MPEG-2 or MPEG-1, which will degrade quality.

i do have a dvd burner thats why im asking if its possible to convert avi to dvd formats and what format can i use for dvd.

also a small step by step in which softwares to use please

You will have to re-encode the video stream to MPEG-2, and re-encode the audio stream, unless it is Dolby Digital (.ac3), or Pulse Coded Modulation (.wav) to MPEG-1 Layer 2 (.mp2).

You'll have to adapt somewhat your own process, using two or more of the existing guides yourself. I recommend clicking on http://www.doom9.org/conversionguides.htm to see the conversion guides.

I'd start with these two guides: "AVI to VCD / SVCD guide" , and "(S)VCD to DVD-R guide" since what you'll be doing will be to convert an AVI video stream to MPEG-2, and, probably, an MP3 audio stream to MP2.
