TechTV will expose me to anime for the first time. What should I know before I watch? Anybody know anything about the show?

Coming from a guy with the same nick as the one who did "The Fanservice Video" (nice *bounce*-*bounce*'ing there ^_ ^). (Or is it really that very special Zarxrax? How are things shaping up in A-F? ^_^).

More seriously though: Yes, if you really get into anime, you *will* get poor. There are just so many cool DVDs that you have to own, and you don't have unlimited cash flow.

The latest Japanese animations I watched were Rurouni Kenshin, Chobits, Ghost in the Shell TV series, Mahoromatics, and so on. I have too many friends who are addicted to Anime and some of them really spend a lot on Japanese animation DVD (a title could cost over US$1000.)

yeah thats so true, and then you live in germany and import animes from USA and Japan, and wait three weeks unil it is shipped :( .

btw has someone ever bought the first boxed set from Saber Rider??? 500€, thats soooo crazy and the second box set 500€ too :eek:

Anime is amazing yes it can cost u a bundle but no more than if you bought loads of Films on DVD

The average anime DVD from america ie Amazon.com etc costs about $20 or less

as for what anime to watch it depends there are many types.

the main ones are Movies which are one off two hour things stand alone or Series which span many episodes typically 26 often more.

I like both a. Here is a list of series that if you have access to u might want to watch

For awesome fight scenes and good overall developed plot
Kenshin.
For a love story.
Love Hina Or Ah My Goddess
For a wacky and i mean wacky one (the creators were on crack or something)
Excel Saga.

For Standalone movies

I reccomend Ghost in the Shell (the english version of this is good too)

All the others the originals in japanese with english subtitles is the preffered way (amazon sell em in japanese and english combined on the same dvd normally)

btw a good anime to start with, in my opinion is any Ghibli work ;o)

You forget to mention that it is on average $20 for 30-60 minutes of footage. Unless of course you get a box set. Those can be cheaper. So it is not on a pricing par with average home grown video.

GASP!!!! You forget Puni Puni Poemi!? Granted it was done by the Excel Saga team. But I dare say it is even wackier than Excel Saga. Well as wacky as you can get in a little over an hour as opposed to 10 or so. The useless super powers. The villans with the dangly balls. The crucified Aibo. The stupid aliens. The gratuitous fan shots. The massive breasts. Talking at the spead of sound! The S&M. The Dragon Balls. NABESHIN! How could you forget that? :D

As for me. I have suffered the curse of Anime for over a decade now.
