Stripping audio tracks

I've recently been learning how to strip audio tracks using IFOedit. Being a newbie, I hoped simply stripping some tracks and subtitles would shrink the size down to fit on a DVD5. Looking at the VOB file sizes when done compared to pre-stripping some VOBs stayed almost the same, some shrank maybe 200K, one got bigger by 100K.
Being a newbie, I thought stripping would be enough with the size of a 3 min MP3 file being ~3MB. What am I missing? Is this similar to deleting emails and not compacting the mailbox?

Subtitles do not take up much space on the dvd disc and therefore will not drastically reduce the size of the vob files. (Same as 2 channel audio tracks. Try stripping all the 6 channel languages which are about 300-500meg each.

If it still dosnt fit on a DVD5 then you will need to re-encode with CCE or TMPGEnc and then re-author the dvd. Otherwise you can use the less favourable and much slower ReMPEG to re-encode and then you can use IfoEdit and you wont have to re-author.
