Philips DVD 723 ... mp3 cd?

I have a Philips DVD 723 and this player plays well (S)VCDs and CVDs. I read on the manual that it can also play MP3 CDs so I tried to play my collection.

The results: i tried about 10 different discs and the player played only 1 disc. I read somewhere that MP3 discs must been written with a particular mode (dunno if mode1 or 2).

Does anybody know how to burn a MP3 disc that plays on this machine? I have made many tests but I don't know exactly the right disc mode or format!

go look for your drive there , it may have more to do with the disc you have the mp3s written on then what format you use to write them. maybe you should try to write them to cd-rw discs. i found them to be the only written media i could get my dvd player to read.

Can anyone help me with the specifications for burning a mp3-cd that this player can read?
The sound and projection of a DVD is great."

so it seems your not the only one with this problem , or did you post that?

According to the manual it plays:
- VBR and CBR.
- Supported formats: 32, 64, 96, 128, 192, 256

I tested these formats and they all played without a glitch:
- CBR: 96, 112, 128, 160, 192, 224, 256, 320
- VBR: Max. quality with Audio Catalyst (96 - 256)
- VBR: Max. quality with Lame v3.92 using the --r3mix option.

ok and this post i found should tell you something,
"I'm using firmware 4.22.70+6.1.10

For MP3, use ISO9660 level 1 only. Joliet is supported (but not displayed), but as MP3 tags are supported and displayed it is not important.

CD-Text is supported and displayed !"

maybe you need to upgrade your firmware. also about using iso9660 level 1 , i think nero does this if im not mistaken, anyone?

Test result: plays CD-R(W) using ISO MODE 1, FORM 1. It's really buggy also with updated firmware. It crashes when changin' directory or file ... it's a very good VCD and SVCD player but not for MP3s.
