First off: Fantastic program DSPguru, i love it and thank you for the effort you have put into it. Yes here it comes, the dreaded But...

Using the Ogg 5.1(6ch) is it posible to alter the "VBitrate" or the Quality modifier for each chanel, as often the rear chanels require much less IMHO, which to my understanding would give a nice decrease in filesize? I dont know if its even possible with the aud format(Ogg has always looked a bit TO flexable since i noticed it a few years ago, but always my fav aud format since).
Or am i just being stupid as the VBitrate scales down to much less for the rears anyway? though i would still like a bit of manual control ;-)

Another point i would ask is if there is an easy way to decode a 2ch 5.1 to a 6ch for encoding into a 6ch ogg? I just hope there hasent been an update that fixes this up properly(only tryed this bit a few weeks ago but couldent post as i had to regester and i got distracted by X-Box)

Hope im posting to right place...
TIA for any help etc.

Welcome VorEnSith,
your idea for dynamic bitrate allocation per channels is Good, but currently not offered by vorbis. that's basicly why i wouldn't advise encoding to 5.1ogg.

as for your second question, check out this huge thread :

2nd thing first, i was in the middle of reading(backwards - the first post) that set of posts, very enlightening, hence the "easy" LoL... But i meant decoding of a 5.1[or DTS] in the 2ch into the 6ch version, mostly with thought of using in conjunction with my first question's answer(if a good one). Which, as i can gather is slightly different from the results of said post... im going to go out and get the Alan Parsons Project suff today(my dad only has the bast of)... i love it but dont have a CD at the moment, and i want to try it out in the best circumstances posible. Ohh mybe not, the shops will be closed now, i sleapt a LONG time.

As to the first point, it seems a shame to not be directly suported in Vorbis. But is the limitation in encoding software only? would the playback work fine as inherantly i guess the bitrates of even stereo VBR chanel's should be indapendant though not stated as such? im going to look into manualy puting together a 6ch stream... just to see if it can work, i presume there would be some software out there that could put 6 mono ogg's into a 6ch version(not looked into this before, so any tip's prog's etc):sly:
