Arror masage in CCE

I captured my AVI file form my DV camcorder to HD than I imported it in CCE 2.5 when I push encode button I get massage “couldn’t find appropriate codec for dsvd”.
Can anybody tell me what does it mean codec for dsvd and where can I get it.

CCE 2.64 and higher support native DV for import.

basically all versions of CCE (not sure about 2.66 tho) only support VFW codecs, not DirectShow codecs (of which dvsd is).

what you can do is install a vfw DV codec (the DV forum will be a help here) and if necessary (ie for canopus codec) change the fourcc code in the avi.

or use 2.64, then you can use a over 2gb avi without using avisynth (AVI2 limit which is overcome in DirectShow).

2.66 supports DirectShow, as far as I am aware, since it encodes native Type 1 AVIs. I haven't used the M$ codec for quite some time but I will check, if necessary.

2.50 definitely does NOT support DirectShow.

Dear AUENF Thank you for answering me. Your answer is for people with experience in audio encoding I do not have any, that is why your answer set more questions for me then I had before:
1. What is VFW codecs.
2. What is DirectShow codecs.
3. What is vfw DV codec.
4. What is ie for canopus codec?
As you can see now I have four questions instead one I asked before.

2.64 and higher natively support DV AVI's, but i havent tried it with DirectShow codecs only (ie, non-DV)

ok, ill try to answer it for you:

1. VFW (Video For Windows) codecs are the old style codecs, ie what virtualdub can only use.

2. DirectShow (part of DirectX now) is the newer video interface in windows, the DirectShow format and its codecs support greater than 2GB files, which were a limit of AVI2 (VFW codecs can be used in DirectShow AVI's and be larger than 2GB)

3. Microsoft has a DV codec which is a DirectShow codec, and is installed with ME, 2k and XP, and can be installed automatically (thru WMP) with 98.

4. Canopus have a Decode only DV codec which operates in VFW, and is a free (iirc) download from their site.
