Ive made over 250 great avi's from my dvd's but this is the first time in which ive had a problem ripping... im ripping a dvd which probably has an error on it (which i cant manage to clean), are there any rippers that can go 'around' the problem area since it is only like 3seconds of film? i really want to back up this dvd and 3sec of movie time doesnt really bother me... is there a way i can do it or any settings that i can change to make this work??? ive already searched but found nothing on this please help...

thanks for your time!!!!

So what you're saying is that 3 seconds of the DVD is UNREADABLE by your DVD player?

Can you watch the DVD normally all the way through? Or is that 3 seconds of DVD playtime something that can cause your player to say 'UNREADABLE DISC'?

Just curious

sorry i should be more clear ....

when I try to rip the vob files the extraction stops at like 45 % or 35% of two of the vob files... there must be a scratch, normally when I play the dvd everything works fine at the points where im guessing the scratches are at the movie stops for a second or the image becomes a bit blury. I was just wondering if theres any way around this, because at the first site of a mistake the dvd rippers stop ripping. is there a way to make them skip this bit of data and move on or a way to rip the files backwards so i get to the point of the scratch and just 'fuse' the two pieces together (one going forward and one thats extracting backward)
basically i have a scratch that i cant clean and the ripper wont extract past that point...

thanks ...

Well you might try some of the other rippers around. DVD Decrypter or Vstrip. You might try and see if they have any options that are realted to skipping a portion of the movie.

If you don't mind losing a bit of the movie, you could just deselct the chapter where the error's at. But that would ruin the movie, so I don't suggest that as a solution.

Yes, if you've watched the movie, and there are no APPARENT glitches while watching, it's possible something else is hurting the ripping process in those areas.

I suggest starting with DVD Decrypter, if you haven't tried it already, if that fails, go to vstrip and see if it can rip the DVD completely. If not, we'll work from there :)

You could also try using another DVD-player. I recently had a DVD that my PC DVD-player couldn't read. My normal DVD-player could play it just fine so I asked my brother to try to rip it with his PC DVD-player and it worked fine.

Seems some players can handle errors better than others, though to make it more interesing (or sad), my DVD is perhaps 6 months old, my brothers is about 3 years old... :/
