DVD-ROM Now Slow, Before Fast

So I have a 16x DVD-ROM that used to run at 10x consistently when ripping DVD's. Now max is 2x or slower. The only thing I can think of that has changed in my PC is that I upgraded the firmware on my DVD-R pioneer 104 drive. The two drives are on the same ide ribbon.
Would this cause an issue with my DVD-ROM?

Any other ideas?

I'd just try putting your DVD-ROM on another IDE channel and test if the problem still exists.
I've never heard of a problem where a firmware upgrade on drive A caused a slowdown of drive B on the same IDE channel, but it's still possible... I think...
You can also check if your drives are really running in DMA mode (but I think you've done that before :) )

Thanks for the suggestion..I tried that but it didnt help.

I did look at the IDE settings and found that the drive is now operating in PIO mode not DMA. Thi smakes sense as far as my system crawling while ripping sisnce the CPU is being used for the controlling of the DVD-ROM. Now, I cnat seem to get the thing back to DMA mode.

Any suggestions?
I reset the BIOS and tried adjusting the Device mngr/ide settings but when I reboot it reverts back to PIO. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

What about a firmware downgrade ?
I should be possible and maybe it does help...

I deleted the ide controller and let windows re-install a new one on the next reboot. Fixed it. Now ripping at high speed again.

Did you check if the DMA option is enabled for your DVD-drive??
Many manufactures suggest that you remove any disks in the drive, uncheck Auto insert notification, and uncheck the DMA option before installing a new firmware to your drive. If you used a program that did these things at its own, all you have to do is check these options again! It is quite simple. Hope I helped.
