Remap widescreen to fullscreen selection?

Is it possible to rip out the fullscreen version of a movie, and instead, have it play the widescreen version if someone was to select "fullscreen" from the DVD menu?

So the disc would only have the one version (widescreen), and would play it if either widescreen or fullscreen was selected.

I did this with Barbie - Rapunzel, but by accident.

If I recall correctly, I removed the fullscreen VTS set and renamed the widescreen VTS set to what the fullscreen one was.

This made it fit on a DVD5 and now no matter what version is selected, the widescreen one plays.

As I say, though, this only worked by accident.

So if widescreen was VTS_02_XX.VOB and fullscreen was VTS_03_XX.VOB, you got rid of VTS_03_XX.VOB and renamed VTS_02_XX.VOB to VTS_03_XX.VOB?

Or did you rename the IFO?

yes, I the VOBS and the IFO. I can't remember what I replaced VTS_02_XX.VOB with. I must have taken another tiny VTS set and copied it or something.

Sorry, but I am having some trouble understanding how this would work...

what did you put in place of the fullscreen version? Just some random small VOB? If so, wouldn't the DVD play that random VOB when someone would select the Fullscreen version from the DVD menu?

You know, I honestly don't remember anymore how or if I replaced it. I just remember being surprised that it worked.

You may want to experiment with a few things. But if you start shuffling title sets around, you should always keep the entire set (VOBs and IFO and BUP) all together.

I would just strip out the fullscreen version and edit the button command on the menu to jump to the widescreen version. I would probably strip out the selection screen completely so you don't get a choice. Just when you click 'Play Movie' it just starts the widescreen version. But without knowing anything about your IFO file, I wouldn't know exactly how they did this, so you'll need to send more info.

But if you know how to edit button commands you'll be able to work it out.

That "edit button" command seems promising. Is there any way I can learn more about it? (any tutorials dealing directly with it?).

I am unable to get rid of the wide/full selection screen, because it is on the Main Title menu...

You have to go to the PGC Menu where the Root/Title Menu is and have it jump to the PGC Menu where another menu screen is. Then you can strip out the selection screen.

i can't really strip out the selection screen... because the selection screen is actually on the main menu screen... I know many DVDs don't do this, however, this one actually has the 'widescreen/fullscreen' option right on the same screen as all the other options... (view trailer, bonus, etc).

Under PGC-Menus there are 'Pre-Commands' and 'Post Commands'. If you right click one of them you'll be able to Insert and Edit a Command.
So I understand now (that menu screen is a weird setup) that you can't have the main menu screen deleted so you just have to have the button editted as you said earlier.
Use VobEdit to open your menu VOB and see what the command is for that button and have it match the other button. If they're already the same like a 'LinkPGC' command then you'll have to change the command in IfoEdit, where you'll go to the PGC Menu that has the VOB-ID for the menu screen that has the button you wish to edit on it.
