HELP NEEDED!!!

i've tried to upgrade my sony dru-500a firmware to 1.0d
after tried the computer locked up.
i reseted using the switch. i tried to record a DVD, i got an error message saying there had been an error.
i used my head and restarted the system in safe-mode. i was able to successfully update de drive, i.e. the program asked me to reset the computer as it should. now i've tried to record another dvd and get the same error.
funny thing is that i can record cd's, or at least erase them!!
Has anyone of you guys had the same problem.
i really don't like the idea that i might have destroyed my burner!!!

Can you try re-flashing the firmware?
Or restore it to the original?

I think you can permanently damage you hardware if the computer crashes during a firmware update. I happened to me once but luckily it worked when i restored the original firmware.

no they are both the updates. I think there is stil hope, because if the drive was ruined for good i wouldn't even work, right???

LOL... went to the store to change the drive. and they did, no questions asked. i came home, installed the drive only to receive the same error, so it wasn't the Drive but the software.
i now need to try it on another computer to be 100% sure.
i'll return later with the results.

It was nothing but some fu*** up files!!!!!!
i tried recording new files and now i managed to record the files.
i was trying to record a striped dvd -> dvd5.
tried recording some mp3's.... and
doh!!!!
