Hope this is judged to be a suitable home for this topic, as the main point is an issue with re-encoding in D2S. I am starting to play with dvd9 to dvd5 options instead of SVCD.

I have read a lot of the v helpful guides and tried several options.

I read the thread that DVD2SVCD contributed to regarding suitable settings within D2S for reencoding movies that are too long to simply use dvd decrypter and ifoedit to gut the movie to the basic film and burn.

I have been playing with Captain Correlli's Mandolin because at 2Hours 3Mins it was 350Mb too big even when you stripped everything but the movie and the primary sound channel. So I loaded it up in D2S with the appropriate settings and ended up with an AC3 file (347,347KB) and an .mpv file (4,070,416KB).

Following the start of the Maestro guide I asked to import these 2 media assets. The first issue that I should mention in case it has an impact is that on entering Maestro it tells me "Real time preview functionality will not be available because no decoders have been detected(0x410a0011)". Then when I asked to import the 2 files the video suceeds but the D2S extracted .AC3 file gets to 56% and then Maestro says "Cannot locate a frame SYNC word at an expected byte offset.Data might be corrupted(0xc1070042)"

The version of DVD Maestro is 2.9 build 2915a - 1234, and the version of D2S is 1.1.0 build 1c.

Thanks in advance for any feedback. :)

As Maestro already told you, probably you ac3 is corrupt. Look if your disc is scratched or dirty and Try to extract it again.

Markrb: Yes thx, thats the thread I was refering to when I said that I had read a thread that told you how to re-encode for DVD-R in D2S.

Labersack: there is nothing wrong with the AC3 file I have already encoded an SVCD backup of this movie and the conventional functionality of D2S downsampled the extracted AC3 file with no problem.

Any feedback on the first error as well would be appreciated.

Nonetheless, Maestro is reporting an error in the AC3 stream and that is where you have the problem. The is in Besweet algos to fix an AC3 stream which apparently isn't in Maestro. So, let the AC3 be handled by besweet (which it already should have been in dvd2svcd). However, due to a bug in dvd2svcd I just discovered besweet is not executed unless you use Frameselection. So, start from scratch but this time use Frameselection and when the Frameselection pops up just hit OK. The resulting AC3 should be usable in Maestro ( Encoded_audio_1.ac3 )

Thank you very much DVD2SVCD. I will try that this evening, I don't suppose you know anything about the other issue regarding the realtime previewing message?

BTW Thanks for the latest and greatest release. For some reason I have found that in this 1.1 release I can turn all the fancy options on without CCE freezing, which I could never do before ! and it still encodes faster than before, fantastic !

Good morning.

Unfortunatly I ran through the process again last night and the 'Encoded_audio_1_FS1.ac3' file behaves the same as the 'Extracted_audio_1.ac3'.

Any others ideas? This is the first time I've tried anything other than SVCD encoding and it still seems strange to me that the SVCD backup of this disks worked absolutly fine.

Hmm, strange. Maybe there's a bug in Maesytro. Anyway, my final suggestion is to try VCDHelp, there's a couple of good guides for making DVDr using DVD2SVCD.

it is possible to fix AC3 stream without re-encoding using BeSplit.

Thx, I havn't used/seen BeSplit before could you give me a hint of the command line instruction to fix the AC3 file without splitting it up.

use BeSliced as a handy front-end.
